I'd like to think I have an eye for quality and spotting "the find". My husband would call it a talent for zeroing in on the most expensive or non-sale item in the store, garage sale, etc.

But I should add those who, aided by computer power, move huge mountains of furniture and leap over walls for the good of beauty-lovers everywhere.

I imagine what I want in the space (with the help of Houzz!), and then I comb Craigslist, thrift stores, consignment shops, and discount stores until I find a similar piece at a bargain price!

They 'see through' the current layout and confusion of colors and patterns with x-ray vision -- also Superman / woman.

I love to tear a room apart, sit back and admire the emptiness of it and see the new plan in my head and execute it.

I love all clearance items, I have 80% of my home were all bought on clearance .....

i am partially color blind man, ..., so soothing soothing grays make me happy... i try to think of a room as a mans suite .. . the grays and textures, with a little white and a little pop of color in art and here and there.. .. this room is a work in progress, but i never put a thing in the room that doesn't have meaning to me.. here is my gray on gray on gray room.. . i have been told its calming which is pretty much what i was going for i guess.. the painting was done by a good friend. .. it represents a foursome of friends and our adventures and good times together in clubs. this whole room is open and the wall of windows I added, moving the front door, ...the kitchen and fireplace i built as well.. all were bargen sidewalk sales at lowes. mismatched cabinets all re-stained salvation army mercury glass lamps... a couple of ikea cabinets above the stove and 4.95 a square feet little glass tile with copper flecks.. exterior we stained the cedar black .. again its a work in progress. it looked like an 80's pizza hut when first purchased.. the front door and transom window and little roof, I put there, it used to be on the side of the house, i built this all out and made an entry way.. . anywayze heres my little contemporary house. (note)... some of my trim is not all down.. inside we used cheap trailer trim (plastic) gotten from a salvage place ..and painted it all out crisp white.. .

there are some beautiful rooms on here i love t_greenfeilds painting with the knives and cleavers. . laurel's bathroom is to die for.. I love seeing peoples pride and joys. the wonderful things they do to their homes.. i appreciate all forms of decorating.. i bought a little house last year for my mom and we strip gutted it, sanded the floors and redecorated it kind of french country.. my mother loves color, i still did all her walls gray but she threw in such pops of colors on her doors her art and her curtains... she is pretty happy with the place, lil house was picked up for 14 grand ... can you believe it.. we spent six grand remodeling it new windows and such and painting. its all come together so nicely. she loves it.. ..

Improving sense of space and flow.

The key elements I have mastered are color, scale, flow, taste and design appropriateness. However, the most important skill I have mastered is listening so my clients receive what they actually want.

I find old quality furniture pieces, refinish them and find places for them in my home. It's a nice, enjoyable hobby. This old, solid wood (not one smidgen of particle board in this piece) had a water line visible at the base and was too deep for the bathroom I wanted it in so hubby, bless his heart, spent a day taking 3 inches of depth off. Then it took a solid week of working in it to get it sanded, stained, painted and polyurethaned. It now has a very long and useful life ahead of it as a towel cupboard in my communal bathroom.

phyllis, this is just what i like! you and hubby did an excellent job. have you tried putting a similar piece built into your kitchen cabinets? you don't even have to make it flush because that makes it even more quaint. peppi reed

Okay, I'm back... this is definitely not a superpower, but I can draw anything as far as wall decorating. I'll attach a few pictures. Please excuse the fact that they're not all complete. I don't have finished pictures. :)

thanks to the both of you! my kitchen ceiling is and has been for 12 years a semi-gloss brick red, the walls are deep sage green and trimmed in off white. everyone was appalled at the ceiling color, said i would get tired of it and i was really making a mistake! well i still love it and it will stay for 12 more years (although i might change the wall color.

I love color! I don't follow the fad in my area--I do what I like. Everyone says my rooms are "unique" lol.....some says I should put it on houzz photo or hgtv before and after.....like to repurpose a piece....i love love garage sales, restore, flea markets. If I can't find what I need in a store on sale I just wait--everything always goes on sale. My mother in law had me redecorate her whole house! i had fun spending other people's $$ and find stuff just for her

My superpower is getting rid of things I no longer love or are useful. I either repurpose or donate to a worthy cause. Keeping things simple...could that be considered a super power?

I'd say that my firm really excels at luxury new construction homes, from breaking ground to client reveals!

Deciding when a room is balanced or not; also, combining unexpected colors while keeping the end result less "Whoa" than "Nice!".

My first SuperPower would be sewing - have done 8 wedding dresses - 2 for ex-SILs, 1 for 1 sister done from magazine ad for her Irish abbey wedding, daughter's silk Grecian style - not 1 from a pattern exactly. Also draperies, upholstery, plane covers, van interior, pergola cover.

2nd power is ability to read blueprints/floor plans and re-do to make work better. Ex & I planned, revised and built package home when I was 22. Manufacturer used our revised plan in next catalogue. Drew up addition plan to rural mobile home 40 yrs ago for friend who's still living in it and loving it. 10 yrs ago supervised complete remodeling of friend's walkout bilevel to fit their acreage-with-horses-lifestyle. Still says she wouldn't change a thing. However, the decorating/colour-scheming not a strength! Can critique, but not create. BWT, I'm a former phys ed teacher.

well, i finally put my shoes into the barristers bookcase and they look great. what a wonderful idea!

My superpower? ..that would have to be my ability to persistently and consistently declutter my house! I live with my family of 4 adults, 1 of whom is a compulsive hoarder, another an accomplice, and the third a lover of French Romantic design.

I loove contemporary, minimalist design - open spaces with few pieces that make you go "wow!" Living with my family means there's a constant battle to keep our shared living area meeting everyone's tastes.

like sooz001! Visualizing a space "finished". I have no superpowers but my greatest satisfaction is "no cost" decorating. (Former stager). I love it when a home owner loves their "new" space when all I did was rearrange furniture (house shopping) edit items, lower art and add minimal accessories. They realize they have great taste, just didn't know how to show it. ; ) When I see a Houzz dilemma, my first thought is always "what can make this space look better without buying anything." Granted, buying new pieces may be a better option. :)

I can create new decor accessories to enhance a space without the need for paint and extensive renovations, in most cases! I am also great at finding storage items that double as beautiful accent pieces of furniture.
