don't paint it dark dark .. paint the upper flat the color of your walls instead . . the white "beams" will read out but not call too much attention - it is textured drywall not all high gloss trim below . .

No, it doesn't matter . . if they wanted the coffer to appear to all be millwork they would have left it smooth and painted in high gloss . . here, the light outside appears to be strong, but this room has full shutters (darkening), the house has an overhang outside (darkening) and you've got a very dark rug . . if you go dark on the upper coffer, it will take a lot of light out of the room.

I love that ikat print on your pillows, and think it is great on the leather sofa. If you want to do a blue on the ceiling, it needs to be intense, and the blues that show up as blue but still read dark, would only be down to 40's LRV . . not the teens as the one you show. I also think you would want to change the straight gray rug to a rug that had both straight blues (sky to denim to navy PLUS blue greens spa to aqua to teal) . . finding the right combo of blues - in just one place (keep to the straight blues around the room in art and accents) will help tell the blue story. The navy is getting lost because it is tonally so much like the chocolate.

Libra design- I like your idea of Yarmouth blue. It looks a bit lighter than the buxton blue, so I'm going to go with that. Glad you are so good with color! Have you used this on ceiling before?
