Anyone else see an issue with this layout?

We carefully planned the location of 11 cans in my kitchen. Unfortunately 9 of them landed directly on an attic truss so had to be moved. I'm not sure if this is just an issue with renos or new build too.

Also, in my region people have switched to smaller cans - 4 inch or 3 inch with LED bulbs.

Hi Ryan and Jaime, I might suggest you reduce the number of recessed cans and locate them where you need ambient (low light level) light - not task lighting. You will find your undercabinet lighting will suffice for meal prep needs and I would advise LED. Halogen lights give off a tremendous amount of heat while the LED lights do not and have a very long life span. This is considered state of the art now. And, yes, to lopipopi's point, you may not be able to locate the lights exactly as drawn anyway. With the refrigerator, it has it's own interior light naturally so there really isn't a need to illuminate that area - and if you have stainless steel, it will only magnify fingerprints.

At the hutch, you might consider wall washer type lights, particularly if you have glass doors to highlight. For better placement of ambient lighting, I would suggest recessed cans as follows: 1 between the island and refrig/oven with another 1 between the island and range; both of these located midway between the placement of the pendants over the island; and 1 in front of the pantry and 1 in front of the angled base cabinet. All 4 of these should be centered on the "aisle" running around the island.

Hello, As an ALA Lighting Specialist for over 10 years, I think your current plan is pretty good. You can't have too much lighting in a kitchen, especially when it's time to clean. I would take the can away right next to the dining area pendant, I can't see what purpose it serves. Please don't forget to put them all on a dimmer too. Thanks!

I would recommend 4” or 3” recessed and like one of the electrician here recommended, dont forget the dimmer switch.
