Oops, I’ve made a mistake with the variety here as the label fell
off. Now it has opened up a bit more and
comparing with pictures from last year I realise that it is Aphrodite.

I have what appears to be an Aphrodite blooming now, but here's the big question: When I purchased the original bulb years ago, it was supposed to be Apple Blossom. When the bulbs got bigger and multiplied, the original died, and the new bulbs produce a double flower of white with pink feathering. Can this happen or am I just nuts? I'm wondering if the Aphrodite is a sport of Apple Blossom?

Could you have mixed up bulbs? Did the bulb originally bloom as a single? I've not heard of a single converting to a double. Sports could theoretically do that, but a mix up is more likely. Apple Blossom is scented, Aphrodite is not.

A mix-up of labels sounds much more likely - the suppliers are notorious for providing mis-labelled products

Now and then a double variety will produce a single flower, I think many of us have had that happen but for a single flower to produce a full double, that would be highly unlikely. So, if this originally bloomed correctly as Apple Blossom then a mix up of your labels is the most likely answer. If this is the first time it has bloomed than you got a mislabeled bulb.

Actually, now that I think about it, I remember seeing for sale on EBay, seeds from the partial double Magic Green which is normally a large single. The picture showed a partial double ( a few extra petals coming from the center of the bulb) so, I suppose it could be remotely possible if your flower were a partial double but not a full double.

Any chance we could see a picture of this flower?

I'm beginning to think I've gotten my blooms mixed up. I probably had an Apple Blossom at one time, then got this one. It's just not logical that it would switch from single to double, I suppose. Also, this one is kinda stinky if you sniff too closely, which I just did. Thank you all for your comments, it's obvious y'all love this flower. Perhaps I should buy more! Here's the photo.

A little bit of both....

My double record has come out while the Aphrodite is still
hanging on. These two are rather similar
in appearance and I tend to confuse them, so it’s useful to see them together
