I agree with Sophie, bigger isn't always better. No one needs a 14' island, combine the space from the banquette and the eating area on the island and put a proper table which is far more versatile and comfortable to eat at. Without a table a family can never sit and look at each other across the table and have a nice conversation. Breakfast bars are over rated, a family around a table lasts forever!

Thank you for the feedback. Note opposite to on the other side of the room are the patio doors to the backyard, will a table in the middle room note make for another awkward layout in terms traffic through the room?

The room is fairly large so looking to make the best possible use of it as it relates to entertaining and of course quality family time.

14-foot island... rather too long unless in a restaurant.

Get your kitchen designer to rework the plan with a smaller island and to fit in a table and see how you like it. With a kitchen that size you have room for both things.

We just put a 12' island in a party barn and I love it but I wouldn't want it any longer than that. My thing is that I wouldn't want this to be my main seating area. We enjoy it and do spend a lot of time hanging out at the island/bar but we have dining table for meals. Good luck!

Feedback from others with islands are- they are great for seating while cooking entertaining, there seems to be divide in this community. I also have a formal dining room that we use during the holidays and when we have family over seats 10 people. Given the kitchen will be off of the backyard where we have a pool I expect that room to get a lot of action and thus looking to get seats setup where the kids can have snacks, drinks and run in and out to the backyard.

I'm really a novice when it comes to this stuff and really looking for ideas to make this great kitchen that is inviting and functional.

This is what I would do with your kitchen:

Maybe just scale back the island and cabinet by the door so that it is centered between the cabinetry on either side.

Cabinetry on the right can be pantry, beverage bar, hutch, whatever you want.

Agree. Too big. And too skinny for the length. Ours is 108", has a 36" range, and is quite large.
