Wondering about the stone on the fireplace.

Can you please tell me the name of the rock on the fireplace I was hoping to use it on the wall behind my stove...do you think it would work or is it too big. The wall its doing on would be approx 15-16 feet long by 6-7 feet high (between cabinets). Beautiful house!! Also from the kitchen you can see the fireplace in the living room which is floor to ceiling slate do you think the color of the rock will clash it's kind of harf to tell from the picture.

We only provided the cabinetry. I suggest printing this picture and taking it to a tile or rock store near you. They can likely tell from the picture what stone it is.
I think this stone is too large to use as a backsplash behind a range. It's more like exterior rock, and it's actually larger stones than the picture looks like. I'd suggest something with slate in it, like the Jeffrey Court Fire and Ice tiles. http://www.jeffreycourt.com/chpt9_floor_mosaic_glass_tiles.asp
Those would look fantastic as a backsplash, and are actually pictured in one of my photos on here. That would tie in with your slate fireplace. There are actually a lot of tiles to use as a backsplash that have slate in them or accents that would be better.
