This is a wild woody hot desert perennial that thrives here with great neglect in early summer. Took these pics today in Sabino Canyon.

Thank you for answsering, but the photo looks like brittlebush. The ones I was wondering about are Santolina chamaecyparissus (grey santolina) and Santolina virens (green santolina). Another common name is Lavender Cotton.

I want it too and have had trouble finding it.

I planted three Santolina plants (in the Catalina Foothills) two years ago. These were Monrovia plants, in a 3 quart size, purchased from Mesquite Valley on the east side. The two on the left (foreground and background) have each spread to about 3 feet diameter. The one on the right is struggling, but I think due to an irrigation leak. The Monrovia tags identified them as S. chamaecyparissus (Lavended Cotton). I think they are actually S. virens. This picture was taken before deadheading the bloom. Great plant! I plan to add more.

I have a few grey santolina for years. They are great drought tolerant plants. I bought mine from Whitfill. Haven't seen any green santolina.

I found this today--both the green and the grey in 4-inch pots--in the Herbs section at Mesquite Valley Growers!
