I love your cabinets! If you're looking for a new wall colour i would stay with a light hue. A very light grey will give the room an updated feel and pull in the grey from the tile floor. I would also think about adding a backsplash. Some beautiful white subway tiles will go a long way to giving your kitchen that life you are looking for.

As Alina said, beautiful cabinets! if you're willing, a beautiful new counter top either laminate anything the could pull of a nice carrera marble.

If you are interested in painting the cabinets, a blackened blue or dark indigo would look great with the current tiles and that carrera marble idea. From there you can add pops of colours in yellow and/or red. Again with the soft grey Alina spoke of.

I really like the idea of grey but worry that it will clash with the adjoining rooms that are beige. Would you try a lighter version of this beige (Benjamin MOORE AC7)?

I'll take a picture of my kitchen and living room. The grey and beige actually compliment each other better then one would expect( my living room is grey and kitchen is beige). I'm not to sure what your favourite colour is but a nice teal is a good accent colour for the grey and beige.
Painting the olive wall a soft but still vibrant white will make the furniture in the space really pop. Also continuing that beautiful peacock teal as an accent.

Thank you for all the helpful ideas. My concern is making sure that the color in the kitchen blends in with the rest of the rooms as the space is very open, rooms share walls etc. would a bolder color be too strong next to the beige and green of family room??

Not necessarily. That warm browny beige and pale green and the reddish cast of the mahogany would be complemented by a brownish red (like a terracotta), a darker brown, or one of the greener teals. You can also go to the website of the paint used in the family room and see what they recommend for accents...or go further down the paint chip. Or look atthe saturated version of your colors. You might want to pull some of the browny beige or green into the kitchen, too. Check out Celadon ware or even a Muncha poster. I seem to recall brownish ones.

And don't forget the color of your dishes!

Here's a look at what I've done with my living room and kitchen (on a really tight budget). I didn't have much money other then money to paint and add those teal accents.
I completely agree with the terracotta feel so I threw in a pallet so you could get an idea of what works in the room.
If you do go with the grey, have a look at Benjamin Moore Broxburn Greige DC-19. It has that really soft olive/beige touch to it. Which would work great with the current colours. As you can tell, in my living room I have that same deep brownish red in my sofa, which really stands outs now. That Greige will really allow the olive to become unified.

Pulling in some of the colours from the living room to the kitchen will really unify the room and vice-versa (as mentioned) but to take that a step further, perhaps finding a fabric with a nice pattern that has all those colours in it (reds, greens, beige and Browns) on a ottoman or a lamp shade.

I know I know, Grey Grey grey!
