You have a lovely house, seeing the full picture I would now suggest going with a horizontal sliding instead of vertical sliding. I feel like the lines of the vertical sliding is fighting with the lines in the brick, going with a horizontal sliding will compliment the brick and make the exterior of the house seem more cohesive. If you are up for a challenge a pop of colour on the front doors would look great. I can picture, yellow, navy blue, dark brown or glossy black! Thank you, Kendra Bester

Thank you Kendra! Would you do the uneven shingles or the even? I'm going to investigate the color you suggested & I also saw the color Khaki on Houzz which would be in that color family.

I actually think the grey tones look better with your very red brick than the yellowy-browns. But going with a darker grey could update the look.

And while I actually like the vertical board, it would significantly change the feel of the design were you to install the new board horizontally as suggested above. That might help it feel like a change if that's what you're looking for.

You can test out various colors on a picture so you can get at least a general idea of what they might look like. I got a lot of use out of http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/try-on-colors/color-visualizer/ when we were picking colors. Obviously they won't be exact, but you can decide what color schemes you like best.

Looks like a great home! There are a lot of options. Are you keeping the red brick? If so, a grey tone does work, but also a cream/white color for the Hardie Board would be very pretty and blend nicely with the red brick.

A bright yellowy cream, a light celery green, or a blue grey would be my picks.

You appear to have a very contemporary home - please don't ruin it with traditional horizontal siding. Another photo from the street would help us help you more. Are you willing to paint or stain your brick? What color is your roof?

You have very contemporary lines and windows, so putting traditional horizontal siding will pull the whole house into confused territory - the horizontal against he vertical was deliberate to emphasize the materials and contrast. Go dark - iron gray . . stay vertical in your selection - not sure hardie makes this profile, but they at least have board and batten . .what geography are you in? what color are your neighbors? what is your style inside like? . . .all these considerations come into play . . you might go for a organic modern approach and do a staggered shingle profile siding . . but the roof line and all the other considerations play into color and line.

I would choose dark red, terra cotta, or warm brown similar to the trim below your current siding.
