I love them they usually also get rid of the need for supports at an eating counter like in your picture I do however really hate corian so that would not be my choice for counter. Waterfalls can be done out of any counter material including Formica but I have done them in quartz and they look awesome.

I like the look and I wanted to do this for the basement bar. The problem with the basement is that the floor is not really even so installing a waterfall would be a challenge. The cost is not that different than for a regular top. You pay for the material and probably a bit more for installation. I wouldn't do corian, though. I think it looks a bit like plastic.

Thank yo for your quick replies! I know everyone seems to hate Corian on here! I'm wanting it because of the built in sink which I'm sure looks dated to people, but I'm all about clean up! We have hard water where I live and it seems like wherever there is a crevice of any sort you get build up no mater how much you wipe things down. My mom has it which hers is a dated color but has held up well over the years and my friend has it In her bathroom.

Is there anything else out there that's similar and similar cost that I'm over looking?

I love the waterfall look! So clean looking. We are going with slab contemporary/mid century doors. When I read about mid century mod they said they used Corian sometimes.

I have nothing against Corian. It's just a style preference. I don't know any other material that would be similar in cost. I like soapstone, but I don't know how that compares in price with the Corian.

ohhhhh beware corian sinks! they stain! if someone drops a tea bag in or pours in cranberry juice your'll be putting paper towels soaked in bleach on it. i didnt mind my corian countertops but hate hate hated the sink. and pouring boiling water in caused cracks around the drain, too.

That is my dream island, but I would go with quartz. We have very hard water, also, but an under mount sink takes care of any buildup you may have with a drop in sink.

We just got a quote for Corian or Hi-Macs counter tops, including an island with a waterfall edge. $8500 for the waterfall edge, and $5200 without. This is for a medium-sized kitchen with an L-shape and an average size island, but we are in Boston. Either way, it seems really expensive to do the waterfall edge, since the vendor claims it has to be fabricated off-site (as opposed to the waterfall edge being put together using multiple pieces during installation). I really love the waterfall look, but am now reconsidering it. We'll probably try to get a quote from someone else as well.

Well, that price difference would sway me against a waterfall countertop, forever home or not. I sure love the way they look, though!

Melwhited thank you for the pricing information! I should have had my kitchen done by now but have been waiting on my cabinets for weeks! (That's another story) I was just thinking again about the waterfall look. I got a quote for the kitchen but I didn't ask for the waterfall because I figured it would be way to much. That is quite a bit of a difference!

When you asked, where you going to do both ends of the L island? I'm trying to envision what that would look like. Also if you don't mind why did you ask for Corian or Hi Mac?
