What do you mean by "focal"? As your walls aren't red, I assume you mean accents? If so, I think pale aquas or turquoises look lovely with browns and beiges:

I would choose the rug first. So you can find something you just absolutely love prior to choosing the exact color for the drapes. And then choose the paint color. If you like blue, I would make sure the new rug has some blue in it. Look on Target.com or Capel has websites and stores. Good luck. Lovely home.

Perhaps everything this is brownish-red right now could be changed to blue.

Can't replace the furniture, and want to keeps the drapes. That leaves wall paint, rug, and accent pieces in the right shade of blue and celery greens, which I have the greens now.

I agree with feeny, turquoise looks amazing this oranges and red tones, avoid a pastel selection, go with a shaded turquoise, a smokier, dusky tone

I would keep the rug and add accents of the turquoise in pillows ect

I would definitely paint the walls an aqua. I think it would really bring this room to life. Not sure of the colors in your rug. If it has aqua in it, I would pull from that in terms of the color of aqua paint, not necessarily the darkness, and then add accents as well.
