Log Cabin Bathroom

I just purchased a log cabin that is brand new. The bathroom consists of a bathtub/shower fiberglass enclosure in white, a small window above the enclosure, dark wood floor, whitewashed walls, white sink and toilet and a light stained vanity cabinet. No mirrors or towel bars, etc. So a blank slate really. The colors I'm thinking of for the rest of the house - brown and cream with a splash of turquoise. I want it rustic but not country, if that makes sense. I'm not the best decorator. Any ideas on how I can make the bathroom a little more elegant, but keep the rustic feel?

Would you consider painting the vanity and adding new hardware? Or perhaps deepening the stain a bit although it could just my monitor? Maybe also a different faucet if the current one is not so great. Also adding a mirror, different art work, and fluffy towels, perhaps bringing in your turquoise. Done.
    I really like the bathroom!

Update: Actually, never mind painting the vanity since it's new, maybe just some new turquoise knob

Cute! I think the whitewashed T&G is great, and would not want to cover it with a big mirror as crl suggested. I hate to paint a brand new vanity, but it's current color just doesn't seem quite right with the whitewashed walls. Maybe something with a reclaimed look, or a creamy white, maybe even the turquoise?

I agree about a mirror just over the vanity to show off the whitewashed walls. Maybe you could put a turquoise glaze on the vanity. So you still have warmth from the wood showing through and not just a solid turquoise color. Also I'd change the hardware on it. Very cute bathroom!

    Karen,
I love the T&G and the antique soap box with twigs. Have you considered an Adirondack-style mirror above the vanity? It's rustic without being country cutesy, and would be so compatible. There are many styles and materials, i.e., birch bark, hickory, twigs, etc. Some incorporate colors that could be picked up in other parts of the house. Here's one example, but there are dozens if you do a google search for "rustic Adirondack mirrors".

For whatever reason, I see a round or oval mirror there; maybe to counter balance the straight horizontal lines of the paneling.

A bigger mirror would just reflect more of the wall on the opposite side. I assume it has the same treatment? If so, you would "see" just as much of the panelling with a bigger mirror as with a smaller mirror. I just think a big mirror makes a small bathroom feel more open and expansive. Is there a window in the bathroom?

I do prefer large mirrors in small bathrooms, but it looks like the opposite wall is mostly door.

It's a bit hard to be sure, but it looks to me like mirror over vanity would reflect door and mirror over toilet would reflect wall. So it would be a wash in terms of how much of the wall treatment you would see.

That is a very cute bathroom. Initially I thought the door frame on the right was a heavy brown shower curtain. :) I would add a mirror, leave the shower curtain white and paint the vanity a deep turquoise. I think it needs more of a shot of color than just the knobs and it's small enough. As for the size of the mirror, I think one just over the vanity would be a better look, but it all depends if you want to expand the space at all.
