Thanks. I tend to agree. However, with that space, I think a round table would fit best. We have a large rectangular dining room table - this would mainly be used for me and the kids without company.

Nice space! How about clear acrylic chairs (wipe-able AND California-style) that reference the new glass pendants, and a medium-tone round wood pedestal table in a transitional style (East Coast) so no one "gets the leg." You might have more luck if you search under "kitchen table" rather than dining table, due to the size. See Houzz Shop for ideas.

Neither of those descriptors mean anything to me, but I can imagine casual contemporary, or something like that. Why specifically round? I ask because the dining area looks elongated, which leads naturally to a rectangle or oval. Or maybe I just like the first option best, even though it doesn't match your critera. :)

Anyway, here are a few just for brainstorming... (the 5th one can be round or extended with leaves, which might add flexibility.)

I like the idea of a maple top that can take the dings from kids and not chip like paint. Buy thrift or yard sale chairs and paint. If they chip, keep paint to touch up! They can be the color or colors of your choice. Don't forget all important lazy Susan for table. You can find these at thrift stores all the time and paint or decpoage for fun! Sarah Richardson in her farmhouse covered chairs with water resistant fabric. That looks fun too.

I think a round pedestal shown above except for the Monarch & Tommy Bahama would work for you. I think one of those is a drop-leaf which can give you more space around it when not in use. I do think with shopping you can find a better price however. You may want to mix it up a little with different, rather than matching (to the table) chairs.

Love round tables. I know you have kids, But I would consider glass top tables. The glass needs to be thick and tempered.... SO easy to clean. Yes , over time it will scratch here and there, so will all but stone. The base can be any look you like, iron, painted wood, stone, I prefer a pedestal type so legs are not an issue. All good manufacturers will specify recommended glass size for each base. Round glass top table will add visual and literal space and lightness to the room which will be nice with the dark wood and granite. It will also pick up well on your new fixtures. If you just can't see using glass top, pick a round table with a silver toned metal covered top. Simple clean lined chairs with faux leather ....have you seen the new options available? They are amazing! Completely child proof and look great. Last thought, not sure what you had in mind here, but I suggest you skip the rug under the table with little ones.
