You will have to shear to keep it that small and still have to let it grow a little every year. Buying trees on special should be done with an awareness that they may have been sitting in the retail yard for a time without being fertilized or protected adequately from heat or cold. Plants can look green and still be severely nutrient deficient; this affects ability to establish and grow away well after planting. Tops can still be live while most new, small roots located close to pot walls have been killed by heat or cold exposure.

Oh thank you. I will get it in the hole then! I'm going to line the hole with some leaves and other such stuff, and water well (with a few drops of Baby Bio added - No I'm not much of a gardener! lol) Next time I clean my fish tank filter, guess where the yucky stuff will be going..

Always refill planting holes with the same soil that came out of the hole. If you have leaves or other material to add put that on top of the soil, after the hole has been filled.
