Mirror over fireplace mantle, something is not right

Hi all! I am in the process of decorating and in the living room I bought this mirror for over the mantle. But every time I look at the space, something is off. Wondering if it is that nothing is on the top of the mantel yet?
Any advise welcome

Hi there. Mirror is lovely! But you're right, something is off... the sconces on either side are too low and too far out. They should be up and in... closer to where the mirror curves in at the side.

I agree, the mirror is great but the sconces are off. Either move them to where HometoCottage suggests or eliminate them all together.

Hi, I agree with HometoCottage. The sconces need to be higher and closer in. I like the idea of big billowy window treatments for the doors leading out as well. It would help to frame out the fireplace creating a solid focal point. Personally, I would add a rug to the dining area as well to define the space a bit more but that is personal preference. Lovely chandelier!

Thank you so much for your comments. When I bought the house I was trying to avoid the cost of changing the placement of the sconces. Don't know why the previous owner placed them so low. But yes, they do need to be changed. Curtains coming soon, yes I think they will make a difference. Rug for dinning area too! Just bought the chandelier, not totally installed yet, and will be lower.

I think you'll find the cost will be reasonable; it's not a big job. You'll be happier in the end. Your beautiful room deserves it.

I love the mirror. That being said I think it is the mirror that is off. it is too high and is only reflecting your upper room area which is not interesting. Do you have another wall in that room for it?

no, I thought about hanging artwork there instead and decided to go with the mirror. I will think about lowering it, thank you!

Scones are too low like others have already said. Maybe take them out completely and install track lights above the fireplace instead if lighting is needed? I personally also think the mirror is too small for the space.

The mirror is beautiful where it is. Everything will look better when the sconces are raised, they go very good together.

I would paint out the mirror frame in a distressed gray (or whatever the chair leg is) and remove the sconces. I would put crystal candleholders with some crystal drops on each side with white candles. The color contrast is too much for that light wall.

The crystal candle holders are a nice idea. Wow nice photo shopping! Yes, something tall on the mantel. Now I can envision my curtains that are in the making. Thanks
