I just recently became aware of an opportunity to help a local non-profit center which serves impoverished children in the Johnson City area. They had a large hoop-house style greenhouse, complee with thermostat regulated fans and vents, donated to them last year and are looking for ideas on how to maximize this space. We are planning on growing vegetables for use in meals provided to the children, but we want to explore possible revenue generating uses as well. Any money made from the greenhouse would be used by the facility to provide much needed equipment and supplies for the children. I have a long history of home gardening but I admit having little experience with the business side of agriculture. Thus far, we have discussed poinsettias, coleus, organic seedlings (for garden starts), annual flowering plants and blueberries.

Does anyone here have any suggestions? Ideally, the crop will be low maintenance as the children, grades 4-6 specifically, will be helping with the project.

We would like to use this gift to help fulfill a need within the community so if someone knows of a crop/plant which is in demand, that would be helpful as well.
