i think it would have not looked good having all 4 matching so well. try a single tall one about the same width for the other side.

I think having the set would look fine but I would put them up higher. About 18" from the ceiling to the top picture. It will fill the space much better and you'll have the room underneath for a side table with pictures or a lamp.

I thought about a single tall picture also, do you think I need to stick with the abstract art? I am not sure if the the shiny champagne frames work with my sort of rustic feel or not. I will have to try hanging them higher to see how that looks, it does seem like alot of wall space above them for sure. I think I was going for centering them on the built in cabinet....

Can you not put one of each of the smaller paintings on either side of the tv? Or alternatively, keep the two on the left like that and then put one long talk painting on the right. Symmetry isn't necessary when it comes to decorating.

Alice, I tried putting one on each side of the tv and they looked really puny on that long, tall stretch of wall...I am thinking about a tall one on the the other side but am stumped as to what would coordinate with what I have already. Does anyone have any suggestions for art? I am thinking I may really like the idea of art above some kind of console table also. Any opinions on the "single tree yoke" hanging in the middle? Would plants be a better option? Thank for any help anyone has!!

there is always a compromise when hanging something designingishard. generally, the center of the art (or the grouping) should be at 60" from the floor. but when balancing with a large mass nearby you might sometimes need to go higher, or lower. i can understand your choice, when you get around to it a scootch higher is good.

for the other side you may want to keep the frame a similar color or it will look unbalanced. the art doesnt have to perfectly match in style though.

you could also choose an interesting mirror.

Do not hang them higher. Art goes at eye level, and eye level is lower when you're sitting down.

I have to say I agree with you groveraxle. Would you have an idea about the space above the built in cabinet?

My mother thinks the frames of my art work are too light and that I should spray paint or stain them. I have been reluctant to do so but am thinking they should be darker...

Yes, I do have an idea for above the cabinet: nothing. In fact, I would remove the thing that's there now.

Well that is super nice to be able to see how the frames look dark! I can see why I have been reluctant to change them:) Love how you get right to the point of things. Would a console table be right under the single picture? Something just feels unfinished to me.

You've already got an end table there by the chair. I'd try the art first, maybe just hang up a paper template for now, and see how it feels. If you've got something you can use as a stand in for a console table, try that too. But I think a tall piece of art will be enough.

Maybe try getting a third piece of abstract art, frame it the same as the other two (i.e., create a triptych), then hang all three of those over the wooden cabinet and replace that horseshoe thing. Unless they're too big for the space.

Then you can start over with the walls afresh.

Hmmm, that is a thought. I am not sure what I would start all over with. I was so excited to have symmetry in our new home, never thought I would struggle so much!
