I prefer nothing larger than 5 gallon, I don't think larger sizes buy you much in the long run. But for CA natives it's 1 gallons, much better to let them grow into your site. The problem with 1 gallons for other plants is that the nurseries seem to have a much bigger selection of 5 gallons than 1 gallons. I've yet to find a nursery that has as big a selection of 1s as 5s.

Well, thanks for posting this. We are going to go to the one in Murietta soon to find a fast growing shade tree with non-invasive roots. It will cost more to remove the current tree than the replacement tree, but the tree that is there is the messiest tree on earth. It's a Silky Oak from Australia and there is not one season where it's not dropping something on our patio. Hubby likes it because it shades the house but it's ruining the septic system. Has to go. I called and was told to speak with a certain man there and to bring a photo of the existing tree and location. It won't be easy for them to plant a tree either. We are figuring $1500 to remove and maybe $900 for the replacement. Nice to know negotiations are possible. Commission. Hmmmmmm

Moon Valley Nursery has good quality plants. However, they are way overpriced. They're more interested in getting all your personal information as opposed to answering your questions as a customer. It's the way they handle and conduct their business. They're out to squeeze every dollar out of you. buyers beware

I know the salespeople DO work on commission at Moon Valley, or they did when I went there. I called to ask if they carried David Austin roses. The salesman claimed to know all about roses, but had never heard of David Austin roses. He then pressed me quite a bit to settle on a time to come in. He wanted to make sure he helped me. I declined to set up an appointment for plant shopping. When I did eventually stop in, I asked the first employee I encountered if they worked on commission. The answer he gave me was “Yes”. Way overpriced. we spend $20,000 there for our yard on trees and plants, only to find that most of the plants could be found elsewhere for way less. That was even after a 50% off discount. They to tend to have larger trees then you can find elsewhere, but if your willing to wait for the growth, go elsewhere. They do offer a 1 year warranty so if anything dies, you will get the credit back, but of course. many of our plants made it just past the 1 year mark then decided to die on us.

Their selling practices are very much like a shady car dealer. The salesperson told me multiple times that 24" box trees are $1000 "installed". When I called to place an order, she tacked on a $300 delivery charge. I don't see how she was planning to install for $1000 without delivering it first? I went with a local landscaper

I own Brazos RV Resort on the Brazos River in Texas. It is an RV park with two cabins. Each RV lot has identical flower beds planted by the entrance. I insist on uniformity in landscaping. I have two lots that do not have shade trees. I called Moon Valley and told the saleslady I am 67 years old and require trees at least 10 feet tall because I will not live long enough for a smaller tree to grow. I purchased two trees from Moon Valley, a Magnolia, and a Choctaw Pecan. I purchased trees at least 10 feet tall. They would fit in uniformly with both being tall. Moon Valley missed the appointed times and dates for the delivery two times. They failed to give me notice until the last minute. Then on the third try, they arrived when I could not be there. I had a tenant meet them and show them where I wanted the trees planted. When I was able to come to inspect the trees I found a nice magnolia tree that met the 10-foot tall requirement. The pecan tree was around 5-foot-tall with a broken limb. I complained and was told I did not specify the height for the Pecan tree. I have asked them to remove the tree before the roots begin to grow. They refuse. I do not recommend these people. After this, I looked at the BBB reports and looked up Moon Valley's litigation history. This appears to be their way of business. I do not recommend using them. Check the internet for complaints and lawsuits before you purchase from them I wish I had.
