Thanks for commenting. The top rail is Meranti. We use 2 layers of 1 x 12 glued together with marine epoxy and cut to the radius.

This is such a beautiful design for a deck! I love the color of the wood used. Do you think this wood would be alright during the winter? I would like to do something like this but I want to make sure the deck will last for a good long time. http://www.distinctivedeck.ca/companyprofile.html 

The wood is ipe. I think it is the most durable deck product. I have 30 year old projects that are still perfect. I have never had to replace an ipe deck. I can't say that about any other product. Don't worry about the winters. The summer sunlight is any decks worst enemy. Winter is like putting produce in the fridge. It helps it to last longer.
