Japanese Maples - first year care

Zone 7a - North Alabama

Hello and first real post in this section.

I normally keep most posts in the Cacti and Suculents forum, but it's that time of the year and I am slowly forming the landscape. This past fall I planted a Watnong weeping laceleaf, along with a Bloodgood (end of October). I'd like to know what fertilizer to use on these beauties, if I need to wait until next year to use fertilizer, or if only compost is recommended (if so then what kind). Also, what should the acidity be for proper growth and should any trace elements be used to enhance? Thanks and look forward to avoiding mistakes by heeding advice!

Joe
