New build windows not the right size

I have talked to my builder several times about the windows on each side of my fireplace. They are supposed to be 30 x 60 with a 30 x 15 transom above. The windows came in and are setting in the garage. They measure 28 x 60 with a 28 x 15 transom. Should I demand the extra width, I have an email from him saying they would be 30 inches wide. What would you do? Is it worth the hassle? He may not even be aware of it, someone else is putting in the windows and siding.

For me it would come down to how much it was going to affect the overall look and how long the delay would be to obtain replacements with the correct dimensions. We had some french doors come in that were the wrong size and ended up keeping them because it had little impact on our final result and we were in a time crunch to get out of our rental before our lease was up.

I don't think you'll notice this difference. Move on, this is minor.

Are these supposed to be emergency egress? If so, make sure they still meet code. Also, don't forget to price the difference and get a refund.

Quick question - did you order 'nominal' and measure actual?
Eg, in Jeldwens catalog , a casement can have a nominal size of 18x24, but the actual frame size is 17.5x23.5.

I don't get it, they are two inches smaller than frame out opening? or all of the openings were made specifically to fit this size?

My rough openings were all bigger than my actual windows. But that difference was in both directions. These windows might be too tall.

Window sizes are like "2x4s". They ain't 2"x4".

Yea, you are right. Builder is ordering new windows, we opted to forgo the transoms and have more window.
