Hi Jill, I love your room! I agree with the others, you've done a fantastic job all around. I like the location of the piano in the room too. My only concern is that the chairs look too close to the piano bench for there to be enough space for the bench to be pulled out (for someone to sit & play the piano). But you'd know better since many times it's difficult to tell the actual space/width via computer screen. Just wondering how it would look with pulling the chairs closer to the coffee table just a bit more....just to put a little more space between the chairs and piano bench. Otherwise, if there's comfortable enough spacing for you, I'd say leave it as is. :-)

Looks fine to me. Had it been a grand piano it would've been more of a tight fit, but this works great. If you're pulling the piano chair out, you might want to move the chairs further inward to the table otherwise you'd be sitting awkwardly back-to-back to your guests, but space isn't an issue as far as I can tell from the photo you've taken. I'd suggest adding a little piano lamp as a nice decorative piece to give it that final touch (and make it look less bare)! I know Cocoweb sells some beautifully designed piano lamps, which would look wonderful on top of your new piano.

Were you still intending on adding that wall art despite the piano being placed there anyway? Perhaps above it?

For this wall and another huge wall in my family room... Not sure how to do it now that I have a piano there. One piece above the piano? Then what to the sides?

As a budget idea for art...while you wait for a piece to really sing to you...
What about old sheet music in frames, arranged in a loose inverted "u" around the piano on that wall?
Some old sheet music has some fun artwork on it and might be a fun play on the piano/music thing you have there...

As I have a piano myself, I would switch the two chairs with the burgundy bench so that the view towards the piano/pianist would not be blocked. By placing the backless burgundy bench right behind the piano stool not only everyone can see the pianist but also youngsters love to sit as near as possible to the pianist (facing the piano themselves) and pretend they are the audience (at least in our household) but they also can help in turning the pages!

I like the idea mentioned of placing framed music sheets above the piano especially if it is a music sheet you really love. Or you can add an arrangement of colourful paintings of musicians /music instruments. Also, if you have another music instrument in the house that is rarely used (i.e violin, guitar etc) you can hang it above the piano as wall art. I would also add a tall plant to the side of the piano that is closer to the window and a floor plan to the other side. Do keep the arrangement flexible - in our case, we relocated a bench we had near the piano when my son started guitar lessons in order to make room for the guitars, music stand etc.

Jill, it's great that you have someone playing the piano so make it a daily habit for private recitals!

I thought about switching the chairs and the bench (purple:)) but I'm not sure about walking into the chairs-that's the view from the foyer. I can try it later and see how it looks. Also-bench next to piano bench-is that weird? As for decor, I put my old guitar in the corner next to the arc lamp, but was thinking a big plant would be good there. Then a piece of art over the piano. And one day something to the right (for now my kids easel is there) my 6 yr old is learning piano, and I want to learn too. I hope my 3 yr old will learn too :)

Hi Jill. Beautiful room! I love how you opted for a piano and no TV. It's the kind of room I would love to spend time in. Art is very personal, but this one caught my eye. I've commissioned the artist before and she allows you to tailor the pallette. Anyway.. I just thought this one was really pretty and the splashes of yellow and purple reminded me of your room.

Beautiful room, Jill. You obviously have a great sense of design. I agree that you should try switching the 2 chairs and the purple bench so that your can see the piano better. I think the height of the chairs are blocking it. I don't think it would be weird to walk into a room to the backs of the chairs. It is worth a try. You can always change them back.

Jill- I think I actually like the bench closer to the entry way and the chairs closer to the piano-the original way. Sorry I encouraged you to try it, but I always like to move furniture around to see all my options. Hope the chairs aren't very heavy. What do you like best, though?

I think I like the bench by the piano. It was a little crammed back there before. This opens it up and shows the piano.

I think I agree with Karen Dumont with the chairs/bench positioning. (@Karen I almost suggested the same change in my original comment but then wasn't sure how having 2 benches next to each other would look). Nevertheless, I do agree having the bench by the piano does make that area look more open/less cramped. And, Jill, if you like it better that way, that's all that really matters. Room looks beautiful either way. :-)

I'll keep it like this for a while and see how I like it. It's easy enough to move back.

The room is lovely as is, great job! This is just a "try it and see if you like it," kind of suggestion, but I was wondering if you angled the chairs a bit, and added a very small table between them, whether that might "open" the room a bit more to the presence of your fabulous new piano.
