as long as the knobs are on the top vs the front you can decide on your cooktop based on other merits. kids learn early that for some things no means no. if you are lucky they learn no is always no, but stoves are special.

I have induction and it is excellent: very powerful/fast and easy to clean.

However, I would just point out that the hobs *do* get quite hot, albeit not as hot, obviously, as conventional electric ones. The hobs are made of a type of glass and if a saucepan or frying pan on top is hot and cooking, that heat does get transmitted from the pot back to the glass, particularly if it is a stock or a casserole which cooks for a few hours. So don't assume it will be completely cool to the touch.

For maintenance of sanity, I would strongly advise getting proper graspable knobs and not electronic touch controls. My electronic controls require three accurate finger-stabs with usually floury/oily/wet hands to adjust the heat by one notch and more than three if adjusting the heat by more than one notch. You have been warned.

oh gosh yes who ever thought touch pads were better than knobs never cooked with actual ingredients.

Induction with knobs - However, there are only a few manufacturers who make them with knobs. Viking, and Fridgedaire are the ones that come to mind.
