Shower tile

We have a tub with an extremely weird lip on it. We bought 2' X 1' tile but now my husband is concerned it will look weird with the tub lip and the tile. Any advice on whether we should do horizontal or vertical? I'm leaning towards vertical. Also any advice.... Period? Thanks!
