Colors that compliment Functional Gray by Sherwin Williams?

I've already started another post about bedroom colors but I wanted to focus in on asking around for suggestions for wood colors (and all other colors in general!) that would compliment and work well with Functional Gray by Sherwin Williams?

I have just had this color painted in my bedroom and I am in a funk trying to select furniture and artwork that would work well with it. One idea I LOVE is to do all white framed artwork on the walls. I don't have the art yet but still...I love me some white frames! :)

I am not planning on buying a bedroom furniture set so that is up in the air. I am confused about wood colors/tones that would be best with the wall color.

I might wind up going with a cream/white/off white color for the headboard...is there any shade I should steer clear of? It's kind of hard to tell in some of the pictures online if the color is too beige for a gray wall but then again...I have heard beige could work with it here and there? Is that true?

Here is the room...please be mindful that this house has been a gut-job and the floors are going to be refinished. The room doesn't even have closet doors on yet! Eeeeeeshk.

I'm working on a budget of 2,000 for the furniture so it's tough. This is the dresser I love and it is 1,000 alone. :\

SOOOOO....bottom line....what woods and fabric colors would be the best pairings for my wall color?

Well, just my luck. I go to place the order for the Burkesville dresser (the least expensive one) FINALLY and they tell me it's been discontinued. I call around and everyone else says the same thing. Back to the never ending dresser hunt drawing board. Oy-vey.

can u think of any small items u can put in those smaller drawers in dresser #3.....like maybe extra money? :)

Wait...which dresser are you seeing as the third one?! The third one has the same size drawers for all of them. It's the River Ridge! Is it different on your end??? Hahahaa @ the extra money joke. If I had it I would definitely use some drawers to store it in!! :)

Are you seeing this as the third one?

Still voting for 2 as my fav if not going with River Ridge . There has to be something you could put in the smaller drawers. If you really need 6 drawers though (you do have the closet as well), then the last one (#4/5). Not the one with decorative feet (#3/4). 2 has the most simple shapes to go along with the Sarnath.

Oh I meant the 2nd one if that happens to b cheaper than river ridge.

check out Harlinton dresser by Ashley Furniture. $400 and very close to the one you loved!

Try Furniture Creations "Zelen" also. Just needs a hardware change.

Yeah, the second one is cool but I don't know if I love the hardware on it. I know it can be swapped out but I don't know. I started to not like it as much after I saw some other images of it and noticed how "sticky" (I seriously can't think of any other words for it) the wood finish of it looks. It's very shiny and almost plastic looking in other images. I also wish the top drawers weren't separated with the two smaller ones and one medium one. I don't know. I'm not in love with it. This wonderfully nice sales rep from 1 Stop Bedrooms has been helping me since the Burkesville discontinue disaster and she is supposed to send me comparable models. I'm so upset over that. I was literally calling in to pay and she tells me they got rid of it. :( Ugh!!!

Anyway...another update...floors are refinished. I snuck in today (socks only!) and took a peek! Turned out more cherry-brown then I thought it was going to look but I love it!

Of course the only photo I could get in my room was super dark. Bad lighting! :\

A new contestant has been found...thoughts on this guy?

    PS...
Pretty sure I am NEVER going to pick one out.

I actually like it.....but I don't know if it's the lighting, the color presents orangey. that's the color u don't like. Oh no, did I throw a wrench directly at progress? :)

Hahaha! Not at all! I want the best tips from you guys! I didn't really like "uber-cherry" looking furniture at first but it seems to be growing on me. I kind of like the tone of this wood but I don't know if it will flow with the wood stain of my floor now. I like the pulls on this along with the height and the length. Love that 42' height! My goal is to get something over 39'' in height. I also love that the drawers are all pretty much the same size. The top 4 seem a bit more narrow but that's workable. I don't like when there are tiny drawers thrown in. I want to store as much as possible in what I get so that is very important. :)

I like this one too...It does have a couple drawers that are smaller but the dimensions of them seem decent. The height is 39 and the length is 66. So, it's pretty long!!!

How could I make these accent pillows work together?

Should I just get two of these? Which ones go together best? Do I factor in the navy of the bed itself and steer clear of the blue? Who knew selecting pillows would be so tough! I am looking on West Elm since I have a gift card and 20% off till midnight. Might as well put it to use. :)

2 of the 1st n 2 of the last then get 1 solid red bolster pillow
    Ryan Kelley thanked LORDON Lane

Hate to ask, but are you looking at these pillows because you really like them, or are you looking at them to use up the gift card/sale? Just from personal experience, I find that unless I have something that I really want to get with a gift card then I go with just buying something that I like a bit to use up the gift card and end up not as satisfied.

What about the second pillow as the long pillow? Is the pattern too much?I like the idea of doing the red, mustard and blue. :)

Alison...yes, I do like these pillows a lot actually! You are right though on the using up the gift card before the sale winds down aspect though. That feels like it is pushing me towards buying things that I might not love as much. I initially REALLY wanted to incorporate that third pillow down in the pictures...I love the color and I like the idea of throwing in more stripes against pinstripes. I have also loved the blue one for a while now but wasn't sure about it with the blue bed now. The mustard one is so-so for me. I just like it for the color really. I would prefer something more solid for the mustard. I picked that one because the solid velvet mustard is way more expensive. :)

Two ideas since you do like them then- The arrow pillow is great and would make a nice long pillow. However, I might go with the mustard instead of the pinstriped one just because if you want both mustard and red in the room it's best to have more than one instance of an accent (unless you really want that one accent to stand out). Otherwise, it looks kind of random. As another option, what about this pillow which has both the yellow and red. As great as the blue pillow is, you will have all the dark colors in the room so you may want to start going with warmer colors now (like the red/yellow).

    Ryan Kelley thanked Alison

Another possible option could be this pillow as the long, and the pinstripe pillow as the larger.

    Ryan Kelley thanked Alison

I actually love BOTH of those pillows and have looked at them over and over again! It's always down to decision making with me. So, this combination could work?

I think I'm addicted to blue. I feel like it's screaming to me to be on the bed in pillow form! Haha!!

If anything I would go for 1 or 2 of the same large square pillow (like 2 of the triangle or two of the mustard diamond) and 1 of the long. Would feel unbalanced with 1 of all three since the red/yellow square is the same texture and has the same red/yellow as the long.

    Ryan Kelley thanked Alison

Good thinking! I might go with two mustard diamond and one long red with arrows.

I would just change out the 3rd pillow w the blue pillow from the previous set

You guys are sooooooo helpful!! :) Thanks so much!!!

    MORE dresser questions...

Do you think this one would work with the floor that I have in the room now? I love the price and size of it. Those factors are really working in it's favor...but, I don't know if it's way too BROWN to pair with such mahogany flooring? Thoughts on that?

Here are some tacky...quickly made (via Microsoft PAINT-OLD SCHOOL YO!) ideas of what they COULD look like against that wood. I had to use the guest room though since my room came out too dark.

    PS...

Yep...I think I'm losing my mind.

Liked 1 and 5 the best from the shots with the floor.

    Don't worry!

    Ryan Kelley thanked Alison
    I like 5 now but I miss 3 :(
    Ryan Kelley thanked LORDON Lane
Thanks guys! I like 1 and 5 both! 1 is the least expensive option. I love that about it. Haha.

London...which 3 do you miss? River ridge?
yes the river ridge that could but.......:(
    Ryan Kelley thanked LORDON Lane

London...I know...it's still my favorite. I wish it was just a few hundred dollars less expensive. I would have bought that one right away if I wasn't so sticker shocked from that price tag. Dang it. :\

Crossing my fingers that I make the right choice. I'm glad it looks like number 1 isn't too brown for the floor since it should wind up being the cheapest and it's pretty big. 5 is the most expensive after River Ridge but I will see what kind of discount the furniture sales woman can make on it. :)

Went back today to check things out. The floor guy went over the stain again and it seemed to darken up a bit...

Looks great. I think that while the dressers are slightly different, once the room is furnished one or another would not matter greatly. Go with

    a) the cheapest one

    b) the one that if let go, you will be always regretful

look what I just saw in Marshalls
    Ryan Kelley thanked LORDON Lane

    Thanks sacapuntaslapioz!

I think going with the least expensive makes the most sense. I have been waiting to hear back from the sales person about the prices she could get them for me discounted at. Hopefully, we talk soon! My heart will always be with River Ridge but that price tag is just too over the top...especially when I still have major purchases to make for the house. I've slowly come to realize that it's JUST a dresser and it will work out regardless. :)

London...why do I NEVER see pillows that will work with my color scheme at my Marshall's??? Those would work great with my bed!!!!!! Arrrghh!!!!

I'll have to make another trip to Marshalls!!! I might go there now actually...

Hopefully, it will be out to me in a couple weeks! :)

The knobs are listed as being bronze but they looks pretty silver to me. I am thinking of swapping them out for brass. I tried Home Depot with no luck. They had a shoddy selection that didn't feel right. I am not too worried about that though. :)

Congrats on picking a dresser! Spray paint the knobs. It's so easy. I spray painted hardware once and you wouldn't even know the difference.

    Ryan Kelley thanked er612

Cool! I'll give that a try!!! I definitely like the idea of brassy over silver. Especially since the nail heads on the bed are brass-toned.

My big ordeal though is still lighting. I have yet to find a ceiling light and the electrician is putting all the lights up at the end of the week! Eeeek. My room is the ONLY one without a ceiling light to go up. :\

I don't know if they have a hobby lobby where you live but it's a great place to get knobs for your dresser .
