Iwanagara Apple Blossom

I have to admit I am a little disappointed with this one, it is supposed to be fragrant but I can`t detect anything and my sense of smell is pretty good! Also the ones you see online have white flowers with pinkish/ orangish edges (like apple blossoms!)

Oh well, should be happy for any plant that`s blooming for me, right?

Neat color though. I'm always disappointed when plants are fragrant when they are listed as such. My Den. pendulum was listed as fragrant by multiple sources, but I can barely detect any, though there "is" a fragrance.

Some only have fragrance on a warm sunny day. This orchid is listed with 'Yellow' on the catalogue I have which makes sense seeing one of the parents is Orange Nugget and if you have several of the grex and want to know which is which. Received a few as raffle plants and it is not as nice as the "usual" . Maybe it will be better as the plant gets larger. Though the catalogue says miniature.

Now for the name......Drum Roll.... great renaming and confusion, though in this case the confusion already existed.

It's a nicely shaped bloom. This cross is quite variable I see from yellow to pink white. I have a pink one, haven't checked for fragrance. I know it's an Appleblossom, but, don't remember what named variety. Lost the tag....
Iwanagaara to Jackfowlierra - Names are all new to me.

Arthur, you were right. After sniffing it at all kinds of different times of day/ night, it has a faint slightly sweet scent during sunshine!

I have not investigated the name jet. The tag just says Apple Blossom and when I asked the vendor about the genus he said it`s a cross of 4 genera (Brassavola x Cattleya x Diacrium x Laelia) which was named Iwanagara.

Eve, trust me, though it is interesting that people believe what is written on tags.

Iwanagaara was named after.... "Iwanaga registered this man-made genus in 1960 which combines Cattleya, Brassavola, Caularthron (formerly Diacirum), and Laelia. It should be correctly pronounced with six syllables and can either follow the way its creator pronounced his name while living in Japan (“Ee’-wah-nah-gah-ah’-ruh”) or the Americanized version he used after emigrating to the USA (“Eye’-wah-nah-gah-ah’-ruh”)."

Snippet from the university of google.

If a Genera is named after a person ara is added at the end of the name

As far as the Apple Blossom bit, that is what you will find on most plant tags and maybe that is what the guy registering the orchid intended. ...... but the register has Appleblossom.

In the great renaming some Genera were made redundant and new Genera were created. There are no orchids on the RHS register now with Iwanagaara, it is now a synonym but if you came along to the Society where I am the Benching dogsbody and wrote Iwanagaara as the Genera I would happily accept that (for now) and would put Appleblossom as the grex in the results.

Sooner or later we will have to start using the new Genera names.

I don`t mind at all, I just did not know how to turn it once uploaded to the forum (can you tell me how to do it?), because on my computer the picture is right side up.

If you took the photo with your camera, there is a function that will rotate it to the right position. On your computer even if its right side up rotate it anyway,I've done this many time with my point and shoot camera and it seems to work.

    Its a beautiful flower.
