Pomelo?

looks like a grapefruit. The tree looks like a citrus and it must be a named cultivar since it doesn't appear to have any thorns (most weedy or seed grown citrus have nasty thorns).

The fruit looks like a variety of Florida grapefruit. I was at an event where, someone had a bucketful of these from her Florida backyard ... No one was interested in eating them. ( A lot of people just do not like the bitter flavor of Grapefruit. I happen to be a fan of Texas Rio star Variety sold in the grocery stores. )

So she asked me if i wanted them. I tasted one and .... wow!!! it was a very sweet Grapefruit. The rest is history. My husband and I, enjoyed them very much.

I am interested in knowing if this would grow here in Raleigh NC.

Sabji. Hello yaar. No citrus grows here, same with Mango, kiwi etc. Your best bet would be peaches, plums, nectarines, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries for fruit in this area.

I do like to grow a variety of fruit, so I can eat all year long.

I have a blueberry, Blackberry plants, Strawberries, and a Celeste Fig. Very happy!!! I will add more plants of these.

I did try growing Peaches, pears, plums and apples.

The trees grew well and fruited too!! However, Hurricane Fran did a lot of damage and the poor things just did not recover. :-(

I guess I will just have to buy these.

However, Pomegranates, Persimmons are expensive!!

I used to get tomatoes and other stuff from a farmer who grew fruits and vegetables and sold them off his driveway. Great guy, always gave good tips on growing.

I am looking for a new thread on garden web/ craigslist for Fruit, just like like Plants and Flowers, but from fellow gardeners who have too many and would like to be compensated for the excess fruit. So knowing all the pitfalls, I am still planning on growing them, Persimmons and Pomegranates, Kiwis, Jujubes, Pawpaws.... Talking fruits make me crave for them.
