Make sure the rug is 4' bigger than the table top so chairs can be sat in without falling of the edged of the rug.

Here's one that's traditional, but a bit updated with the overall pattern. I think it would look great in your room. It ties in the blue of your entry hall and the yellow walls. Get at least an 8x10.

I realize you just asked about the rug, but I can't resist a couple more suggestions. Unless the rose painting holds some special meaning, replace it with a more modern up-to-date print. Another easy fix: the fluted glass shades in the chandelier. Just getter straight ones. Those things are really dating the room, which drags it down. And if you care to change the color, it's really easy to recover the seats. I have the same furniture and have done mine several times.
