Mangos produce many many flowers. Most of those fall but some produce 'pin-sized' fruit. A lot of the pin-sized fruit fall but you should still end up with a reasonable number of mature fruit. Mango Trees couldn't support the weight if all those flowers and pin-sized fruit matured, they'd collapse. So a certain amount of loss is natural and to be expected. But don't over water, you could end up with bigger losses and maturing fruit could split.

tropicbreezent, thanks for all the info. I could see that if all those flowers produced nice size mangos, the tree branches would break, especially my tree since it's small. BTW, the mango is in a 5 gal. pot because I've been afraid to put in ground due to gophers. I will definitely try not to overwater.

Thanks msmorningsong! We'll see how we both fare with our mango tree; maybe we can have a taste-test, LOL! A couple years ago, a squirrel, possum or raccoon broke off the top of my tree at night and then branches sprouted on either side. It probably would have bloomed before now if it hadn't been broken.

Sure is. And those are little fruits. Most it will shed itself. You might have to help a bit if it decides to keep ,say,ten. Then,I would advise to thin to maybe 3 or so to a branch on a tree that size. They should be palm sized by September or October. Don't worry about over watering. Here,in summer that's impossible. Well,close to it.
That compact flower looks like my rootstalk Mango. I wonder if a Manila was used?

As of today, only one small mango has hung on. It is the size of an olive. Is there any tricks on how I can save this one fruit? Do you think a plastic container can help as I've used on an apple, some on plums and peaches to keep squirrels from eating them all?

You might have cooked (or fungusy) Mango before you know it. Better to use screening tied around it. Metal mesh would be impossible for animals to get through- but the fruit would get fresh air. You could try the regular nylon mesh. Tied loose a squirrel might not want to eat through folds of it.

Thank you stanofh for the advice. I hadn't thought about it getting too hot in a plastic container, duh. I will try making a 'metal' enclosure.

Where in Cali are you Eloise? Because you're Mango is way ahead of mine. FAR ahead. I have large grape sized right now. Mine flowered early,but May was cold. I blame that- lol.
