Wow - you really did a bold thing - and it looks amazing! Don't stop there - pull it all together by installing a patterned rug with black and light blue in the hallway! Now that little 3 squared wall hanging and round table look skimpy and don't hold up to the drama you have created (remove them). Want to paint your ceiling the same light blue you have going on below the chair rail? Keep going and pull it all together with more of the drama you have created! Awesome!

HI -- Love the doors but now the stair railing needs to be black also and I think you could add more picture frame moldings on the walls and then paint the walls all one color , top and bottom. maybe an antique or warn white .

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. I, too have been thinking about a change to the railing. I'd be doing the work myself and am dreading sanding the rail and spindles. I hesitate to use black because I don't want to carry the theme to the first floor. My thoughts at this point are of a VERY dark stain on rail and painting the spindles white.

With regard to the color below the chair railing - the pictures are deceiving - it's not blue but actually seafoam green. I'm thinking of sponging a darker green-gray over it with shades of the lighter green coming thru.

Well you didn't ask, but....... I think your idea to use a very dark stain on the hand rail and paint the spindles white is a great one and will work really well! But please consider abandoning your idea of sponge painting. For me, it is a dated look. Why were you thinking of doing that? Are you unhappy with the way it looks now? Just curious - :)

Love the black doors, but it would look more elegant if you removed the chair rail and painted the wall (top and bottom) the same color. It you could beef up the baseboard and trim that would go even farther.
