What color area rug?

This is a picture of our tiny living space. I bought these side chairs and also a green love seat to go on the opposite side. I'm thinking a light grey or an off-white color area rug will bring this space together but not sure - any advise?

Hi mali, I think your idea of a neutral off white or gray rug could work as long as you could also add or replace the throw pillows with ones that help tie the upholstered pieces together as well as the rug. I'll try and find some examples of throw pillows for you and post later.

In the meantime, if you're open to a rug with colors that include the colors of your sofa and chairs in it already, that would be a another way (as mentioned above) to bring the pieces of the room together. Below are some examples from zincdoor (1st 2 shown), crate & barrel & west elm.

I'm just wondering how to tie what looks like turquoise chairs to the green love seat..have you thought about a rug that contained both colors? Then I would add solid colored green rolled cushions on the single chairs and turnquoise on the couch (mix of solids and prints). Just a thought.

I don't care for any of your pillows. I'm sorry. Too trendy. I like your furniture pieces & easy to cover the pillow in different fabric or buy smaller pillow fillers to cover. Do that last though. That comes with your accessorizing (done last). Do your area rug now. Look at Oriental or Persian style rugs at Overstock.com or Ikea. They have an overall pattern with many colors which goes with any decor style. They are timeless, classic & even better if you can find an old one on craigslist.

Choose the art & accessories last. Make sure the area rug you buy will cover the full space you will want to place the furniture & any additional pieces. I like your choices with the larger pieces you have gone with. You may want to add a chair with arms as they will be more comfortable for long sitting than slipper chairs.

I suggest green on green and changing the throw pillows on the blue chairs to something more in keeping with the color of the sofa.

Hi, if you decide on an off white rug, these are some examples for new lumbar pillow for the blue chairs.

Then here are some pillow suggestions for the sofa with a more neutral rug. The lumbar pillow with the white background I posted above can also be mixed in with these below (especially if you go with something like the 4th pillow shown) for the sofa vs. on the chairs.

I would suggest maybe just 1-2 of the larger blue/green pillows with 1 of the lumbar pillow and 1 of the white pillows.

@JudyG, you're right! I guess I was typing while you were posting.... :-) IMO, some of these below would look fantastic with your rug too Judy!
