Knots or not?

Need some input here on our flooring choice! We've narrowed it down to 2. Pricing is pretty even, so that doesn't make a difference. We have one child, a large dog and cat. We need something durable, not slippery. Our overall décor will be a coastal feel with rustic and modern touches. This flooring will be throughout our main floor and bedrooms. Will the knots in the Laurentian be too overwhelming?!

Pravada Artistique (Eiffel) above - Smooth surface, slightly lighter in colour.

Laurentian Oldmill (branson)- has fairly deep knots. Just slightly darker in colour.

Coastal with rustic/modern = lighter floor with wide plank + knots = perfect to your choices. I prefer the Pravada. Don't worry about the knots...you have "rustic" going already. Choose the colour that is most appropriate.

They both look fabulous, but on my monitor the first one looks cooler than the second one. So, will the rest of your furnishings be cool or warm?

    Loving the feedback! Thanks all.

Carol - we will have a lot of white in the house. Trim, cabinetry, etc. The kitchen will be more of a warmer palette. Furnishings have yet to be determined.

The one with the knots for sure. I envy you. I also have coastal and would love that floor.

Tell me what is the wood? Is it prefinished hardwood. What type of wood? I like the lighter colored one if all things are equal.

@houseofmagnolia: the first photos (Pravada) have a nice neutral tone to them. They are what I refer to as a "cool neutral". They appear a little cooler on their own but can work with what ever you throw at them with warm/cool tones. The second set of photos, these would be more of a warm neutral. They can work with anything...but they prefer "warm" tones to look their best.

With white furniture the darker tones will do very well to offer a contrast but they will darken the home a snick more than the lighter gray. I'm still fond of the ligher gray but the choice has to be made when looking at the "total picture". In your home, with the furniture in place and the amount of sunlight you will be getting will make a huge difference.

If you are in the Pacific N. West, then a lighter floor is worth its weight in gold...dreary winter with only a 2-3 months of "nice" weather. Some people need to lighten up the "gloom". It depends on where you live and what looks best in the space.

They are both white oak. Engineered hardwood. 14/15mm

And yes, we are on the West Coast / Vancouver. We need all the lightening we can get during the rainy season.

I like the top one but make sure you get a current dye lot sample before going forward. Buy 2-3 boards first.

Thanks CMR. I've never heard of doing this!

On another note, does anyone know of a comparable flooring to this? We want engineered. Durable, lighter colour.

I am in Vancouver and just installed Pravada in Chiffon Drape. I am very happy with it. You could try the Purparket line from Burritt Brothers as they have some beautiful lighter coloured, wide plank oak floors.

@houseofmagnolia - did you end up installing the Pravada? I’m contemplating the Chanel in the Artistique line or possibly the Chateau Blanc, which is narrower boards, can’t remember the name of that set. Anyway, would love to hear your thoughts.
