When my husband was alive, we each had our creative space. The loft over our living room was devoted to his model railroading hobby, while a bedroom was my fiber arts studio. Now my studio has expanded to the loft as well as the garage, and with the loft becoming my loom room.

My wife agreed to let me create a ManCave after I made her an office. I'm a huge Miami fan living in NC so everyone was happy in the end!

We had 2 man caves for quite some time. I've reclaimed one of them as a spare bedroom and he's now taken over the garage. Still needs organization or I post a picture.

Thank God we had an extra bedroom when we moved here 3 years ago. I never expected to need a room like this, but I'm so glad he has it. This is where he has his computer, guitars, drums, memorabilia from years and years past, boxes of stuff that he feels is too important to get rid of -- yet he has no idea of what's in them, and anything else you can name. I've painted and redecorated the rest of the house, but I have no designs on his cave. I seldom even venture into it. He also has a shed with a small workbench out back , that he uses for carving. Without these two areas, our retirement years would never be so pleasant or peaceful.

Research has shown that husbands with adequate man-caves are more likely to put the toilet seat down, agree to go shopping for antique furniture, and be nice to mother-in-laws.

Sexist, childish?.. No sense of humor or fun from sour comments on this subject. We have a "man cave" that's used by everyone. Big TV, bar, pool table, leather sectional, recliner. DH thinks it's heaven on earth. In my past life as a designer, I found that a lot of men navigate toward darker, cozier room. They like a "cave". It's a guy thing.

I would love one at our place but we don't have the space. I'd also love a relaxing yoga room for myself. Too me, having a "cave" does not mean you are restricted to only one room in your whole house, it's just that most of the house is shared and that's one room you can have as entirely your own space (if you wish)

His "man cave" is his office / guitar room / music listening den, complete with leather sofa, high end speakers, and mini beer fridge. Our home was originally a model house so the room even has its own outside access.

Yes. Its funny. Our basement is our man cave but it's decorated by me, the woman of the house. Its hard to tell who is the bigger sports nut, me or my honey. Hockey and football jerseys are tastefully framed with tickets to some big events we've been blessed to attend. It's definitely our family room and now that we've added a tv projector and 105" screen, we rarely are upstairs!

My dad kinda has his own 'space' but our whole family uses it. It's not exactly a 'man cave'

My husband's garage shop has neon signs, tin automobile and motorcycle advertising signs, some metal funny saying signs - "Beware of Wife" - "Caution: Occasional Flying Tool Zone" - and a Man Cave sign on the door going in - and giant personalized man cave sign inside. He's been collecting neon and metal signs for over 16 years. His den is his movie/music/gym man cave - decorated with wolves, cowboys and trains.

We do have a dark damp basement that is "cavelike". Does that count??

Had one until the Wife got a new car and took that bay of the garage!

The daughter goes to college next year and I get it back!

All our cars are in the garages so, that's what you get!

My husband's two man caves - his garage shop and den are the two rooms in the house where he gets to choose what goes on the walls - hence the neon and metal signs in the garage and the wolves, cowboys (wild west - not football) and railroad artwork and memorabilia is allowed to be put as he sees fit. His den also serves as a place to get away and watch tv in peace - or listen to his music louder than I'd allow. The entire rest of the house has to get my final stamp of approval - though I do take his thoughts and ideas into consideration. The older he gets - the better his taste in design - I actually was surprised that I agreed with his choice of countertops (colors), his glass tile backsplash, sink and even light fixtures. I overruled on the ceiling paint - colored not white - and I wasn't even challenged on what artwork and where it was put in to go with the new look. Now we just have to get me a woman cave - so I can give him back his office for work - right now - he has to share it with my sewing and crafts. Although I do have "my wall" of artwork that he would certainly try to disagree with anywhere else in the house. Fortunately - 30 years of marriage have somehow melded our tastes.

no. we do not have a man cave. this means that my husband has usurped the living room, for his tv. every spacve inch has his hoard of books.

The remote control is exactly why I want my husband to have his den. Why is it men believe it's their God Given right to control what is watched on tv and what is on the radio - or stereo? I went thru this with 4 brothers - and now have lost control of what to see for the past 30 years of marriage! MEN - we should have at least a 50/50 say in what's on!

If I talk enough - I can chase my husband away to his den to watch tv and finally get to see what I want.

My husband might control the tv - but at least he has no say in the knickknacks or he'd have never allowed Teddy Bears to be displayed in our Great Room. He even had to build the shelves - lol.

And why pray tell - do men need to have a loud tv on with a stupid show - and listen loudly to YouTube videos at the same time. Headache central!

Works with mine - just ask a bunch of questions while the show is on - irritates the hell out of him. One benefit of 30 years together - you know how to push one another's buttons -- but unfortunately - it's a two way street. I look back at the first 5 years and how little we knew of one another - now it's like we can read each others mind. Still haven't found a way to get control of the stereo in our vehicles - sad puppy eyes or pouting can't be seen good enough - lol.

I resent the term "man cave". It implies that he needs to get away from the family that he doesn't get to see while he's working. Everyone deserves privacy and time alone, but a man cave....? My husband says his man cave is the crawl space under the house. BTW, we have 1900 square feet, so in our case, the point is moot.

I like my husband having space to do his own thing so I can do mine. We have no small children so he's not taking time away from them, and frankly, it's healthier for us to each have our own space and not always be together. Our 2500 sq ft plus garage shop allows him to finally have his space - designed with his collections that I don't want in our joint spaces, anymore than he wants to share my woman's cave with my unique artwork that he hates, all my crafts and sewing items and a frillier more playful decor than he cares for. 30 years together, we know each other have our own styles and interest and rather than joining them, we can play in our own spaces and meet in the common ones to be together. I think we'd kill each other if we didn't have the chance to enjoy our diverse hobbies alone at times. We spend more than enough time together week nights, so weekends allow us to separate and play with our own choice of toys so to speak. We will also get together for motorcycle or my sports car rides to no where. So it's a happy compromise. Our previous 1500 sq ft gave me a small room to convert to my playroom but he lacked "his place" so we both love his having his two man caves - and I named them man caves - he didn't so it's not sexist - unless my playroom is sexist!

As a baby boomer, I believe the term "man cave" was a result of the Women's Lib movement. The realization of equality finally gave men some say in their homes. Freedom from frilly, perfect, don't touch, walk on, wrinkle, stain, eat, drink, or ever be merry rooms. We did it to ourselves, ladies! And I for one am glad we did.

I feel no need for a man cave. neither of us are super tidy, My mum would say " A home should look lived in " Who agrees or disagrees ? Our home is not a showplace, it's a comfortable place where friends can drop by any time. We love having visitors from out of town or overseas, I trust they find us laid back.

TVCoverUps- the perfect solution for MAN & the WIFE. The husband gets the biggest flat screen TV and the wife gets a nice piece of art or mirror to hide the "black hole in the wall" when its off.

Having a man cave or game/theater room would be a great addition to any house! Having a room for movies, games, billiards and more would give you a little hide-away at home to enjoy what you love most.

I hate the terminology personally.

Oh puhlease. That term is so over-used. We both have areas where we can pursue our own interests, which overlap, but neither has a spot where the other is not welcome.

My wife is in charge of the house. I'm in charge of the garden. Consequently my 'man cave' is a small cabin I built years ago down by a pond I dug with a bulldozer. My rowdy friends can come over and drink beer and not disturb my wife. Now THAT'S a plus!

It has running water, wood stove, two refrigerators, microwave, Direct TV, a couple of chairs and a bed. Oh, and a loft for sleeping for those that choose not to drive home. ;-)

My husband has a barn, it is the man meeting place.

My husband has an office for when he works from home. His books are in there, as well as a dresser, TV, and loveseat recliner. We watch TV in there. He doesn't seem to care to deck it out with the usual man cave items. The closet in the room contains his things.

No cave, but I do have a nice small shop. I do not spend all my time there. Mostly just the time I need to do what I need to.

I plan to someday "finish" the upstairs of the shop so that I have a place that I can write, but that is many years in the future... if ever.

It's my husband's section of the family room (back behind the beautiful Lazy Boy furniture). I call it the "Bat Cave" since he stays down there practically until he comes upstairs for a shower and bed!

It seems most of our home is his man cave. We do have a game room on the 2nd floor; pool table, a slot machine, but it really doesn’t have comfy seating if you are not doing a game activity. if it has a tv, seems it’s his right to turn it on as he enters a room. After all these years of never having my own space, I finally am, by accident, taking over the basement space. My glass workshop is there and I’ll be creating my own little lady cave. I hope you all post your lady caves in my new post.
