Thanks for the advice. In the almost 3 weeks since my post, this has
become the least of my concerns. The cabinet had to go back to the shop
twice. The GC put a gouge in it, they tried resanding (I knew that
wouldn't work); they replaced the scratched side but didn't cover all of
the exposed side, so it had to go back again. I'm ready to take a
hatchet to it and start over. And that's just the cabinet!! I have 3
rooms full of problems and broken promises. Sorry to vent on you.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully they get it straightened out.

There are things that will reduce sheen on LACQUER. If it's conversion varnish, you might be stuck. If you buff it, the stearates will appear and give everything a milky, hazy look.

Interesting River. I've buffed CV and never had that problem. In fact on one job, I purposely used a dull (flat) sheen and then buffed to get a very low gloss. I did this to get an very low gloss finish that was satiny smooth to the touch.
It came out great. That was a couple of years ago and it still looks as it did when I finished. Could it be Manufacturer related?

I don't know...I refinished a table top and buffed it out because of contaminants. I had to redo it because it turned hazy as I stated.
