Because the granite "overhangs" the cabinets by 15" to create an eating area at the island.

The counter extends out 15" for the seating area. That is what they are referring in this photo

The granite looks like it could be a Golden Beach Granite, a Kashmir Gold Granite, or Surf Green Granite.

I too have just had an island constructed, I am waiting for the counters to be installed. I would like a 10 inch overhang. The base cabinets are 18 inches (there are door panels on either side of 18 inch cabinets, which adds an inch overhang on the sides as well) equals 20 inches of supported granite. Is the 10 inch overhang at risk for breaking off or not being supported in some way?

    Hi Jen,
First I must say that a 10" overhang is not long enough for a persons legs to fit under it. I do 15". With that said, I have metal strips put into the sub top to support it.
    I hope this helps you.
