I hate to ask people to spend more money........however, if you have found chairs that you really love, could you move your existing rug to another room (dining area or bedroom) and then choose another?

We have 2 chairs in the same color as your rug we got from lazy boy which would go.can you tell me where you got the rug?

    rug from Pottery Barn-

Strongly urge you to close in the open panels behind the sofa. Those slices of the view of the kitchen make your living area look very busy.

Don't try to match the blue. How about brown leather (in a small profile, not big bulky recliners), or a darker blue linen? These are from Pottery Barn. Even a taupe linen would look nice with the creams and blues.

i think those are mirrors. I would remove the mirrors and get another piece of art for over couch. Paint an abstract! I agree with the post about the green chairs, love it. Be brave! You have traditional furniture, so a touch of modern graphic fabric would look good.

and why don't you paint the walls that yummy green in that chair picture (or a shade of) instead of gray. Gray tends to be cold... and uninviting. Do something warm. Paint is pretty cheap and a great way to change the character of a room without spending a lot of money.

leelee- I like the green stripe- where did you find that? Open panels behind sofa have been quite a bit of conversation on Houzz- I inherited the problem LOL- some hate them and some love them- I don't want to close it off because I like an open concept and it does give some. May completely remove those two panels if not too costly! Thank you for your help!

Will either of these two work?

You might not know that if you go to a furniture store they have many other fabric selections for chairs than what's shown on the floor. You might not have that option for on-line purchases.

Yes I do know- just trying not to spend a lot and that will cost me more- but gonna live with the room for a long time so want to be happy with what I pick- thanks again- I did find a chair on overstock that actually a little funky for me, see if I can post it.

leelee- can't get pic to post- this chair is Christopher Knight Home Roseville fabric floral on overstock- if you have time- let me know what you think? still better with green?

It's just my opinion but trying to make a traditional home into an open concept doesn't work. Panels of "kitchen view" aren't adding to the look and making the view larger won't help. Your furniture with the china and corner cabinets don't lend themselves to the open concept.

I can see that your home is well done and well cared for. Seems that you're working against yourself.

House2514, is this the Overstock chair you were considering? I don't think it's the right color of blue...more turquoise than your rug. (I can't get the pic to post, either, although I did it the same way as the pottery barn chairs above!)

Sorry, I don't think the green stripes go with your rug and your room, either. Just IMO.

    A solid blue gray fabric.

Don't buy on line. Go to a furn store look in person. Colors on computer are not true! Stay in color tones you show. Don't add another one. Room is nice.

Agree with above comment. You can't pick a chair online. The sites you are looking at have very inexpensive, cheaply constructed items and will not hold up to regular use. Take your couch cushion with you to a furniture store to choose a lovely set of chairs, if you don't want to do complete custom. I would go with a more streamlined style than your couch.
The matchy art on the wall behind the couch may have to go, depending on the fabric you choose for your chairs.
Invest in your furniture, it is well worth it!

I agree with Mick and Nancy, I think that you could do better than the green striped and floral chairs that you're considering. I also agree with Sandy that investing in a piece you'll love is worth it. Even if you need to wait a bit to do so, it's ok....buy something you'll be happy with for a long time. :-)

    I like Mick's suggestions.
I would also suggest trying to harmonize with the sofa, because that rug will be going out of style in a couple years tops, but the sofa has good classic bones.

    Help

It shouldn't be that hard to find chairs. They don't need to match the sofa but good if they match each other. The chairs need to be the right size. I need to see more of the room to suggest something. One thing is to move the sofa onto the rug. The legs on the sofa should be at least a foot forward. That rug is gorgeous and looks great with the pillows. You can get two chairs in any color you want and add sofa pillows with that color. Sage green would look great with your design. More pictures?

Please any idea it would help
Should I rip it out or start over?

Thank you all! I will wait a little longer too get nicer chairs and will probably order from a little designer shop here that I love.

susyq53- sofa is over now on rug- that was older pic I posted.

Have you considered chairs in navy blue upholstery with off-white piping trim to match the off-white sofa? Navy throw pillows on the sofa would help tie all the color scheme together, and I think the addition of navy would make all the elements of the room stand out.

Here is a nice chair from Macy's. They have well made furniture imho for a fairly reasonable price. Cute pillows from Etsy
