I'm thinking of putting in some Ilex glabra in a troublesome wet and wind-exposed spot as an understory to a larger shrub.

But I know they can get leggy over time. Has anyone had any experience trimming these back, or rejuvenating (selective pruning) to get them lower again?

I'm in Northern VA, zone 7.
