Getting impatient...

I didn't do any real winter protection for my hydrangeas, but there is a tree nearby that drops leaves into the flower bed and a lot of them blew into the corner where the hydrangeas are. I didn't clean them up last fall; instead, I left them there to be the insulation from the cold. Depending on the site you look at, the last frost date for my area should be somewhere between April 11 and April 20. I know there are little green leaves and new stems coming up for my hydrangeas and I'm just itching to uncover them, but I'm afraid that if I do, the frost will come and kill them off. It's just hard to keep myself from going out there to clean it up when we have some days that are nearly 80 degrees, but Missouri weather is fickle.
