Yes! We are in the process of doing just that to a new home we've purchased. Check into hiring an architect to draw plans if a city permit or HOA approval is required (make sure to just ask for exterior elevations and check with the city what you need for approval before asking the architect or you may be charged for more than you need). We are lucky to live in an area that doesn't require permits for renovations but we did need elevations for the HOA. Hire a contractor that has experience with windows and ask to see examples of their work so you know they are competent in working with brick. It can definitely be done! For us it was going to cost around $1,600 for 2 new windows (one is a ribbon window--long and narrow, just a pane of glass for light and the other a window in the bathroom shower with glass blocks, also for light. This price was included in the overall budget for a major renovation so it may be more for just windows alone, but I really don't know.

you can. but it is as easy as cutting a hole for it.

it most likely will require an architect and a structural engineer to get a permit to do this. the wall may have to be re-engineered to meet the required shear value. so a lot more than cutting the hole is required.

then, you'll need find a contractor to cut the hole and possibly rebuild the wall to meet current building codes.

this is not a task for a do-it-yourselfer and I would definitely have a permit for it.
