If it is all one space, why not keep the tone in the rug similar to the living area to avoid chopping up the space? When you look for a chandelier, find something to tie into the finish of the lamps in the living space, as well as something that will shed light on the table, not just the ceiling. It also needs to be hung only 30-36" above the tabletop.

I would go with something a little larger than the current, more drapey looking . Definitely hang it lower.
