It's hard to tell in your pictures, but do you have room to stack on the right if you get a curtains that split in the middle? It does look like there is space to stack all the fabric to the left which I think is a better option. Consider what type of material you will be using - heavy fabrics that block the sun will take up more room than a sheer.

I think it looks more balanced to split them to both sides when open.

The windows /doors in the great room of the house we're building won't be too different from yours, and I know exactly how I'm going to handle this situation -- I decided it when we were staying in a hotel room last summer:

We're going to get heavy-duty, hotel-type, ceiling-mounted tracks and cover the entire wall with a curtain and a sheer underneath. These tracks aren't terribly expensive, and they're easier to use than the wall-mounted curtain rods used in most houses. The long, straight track will be free to slide allllll the way to the left (or the right), or it can be split in the middle, depending upon what you want right now.

The negative: I'm going to have to sew the window curtains myself because I have no idea where I could buy floor-to-ceiling curtains with ceiling-mounted hardware.

Alexa- Im guessing the curtain would somewhat cover the slider door handle.
Im not there to measure but based on the space on sides of of double toggle switch to the left of it, theres probably 10-12" between the far left corner and the white trim.

We've not picked the curtains but pretty sure splitting curtains will slightly cover the door handle, which isnt a concern for us as much as th look of it appearing like a window vs like a slide door.

I personally like the single curtain better. I actually would go with roll-ups myself, but between the single and double curtain, I like the single. It's just an aesthetic preference though.

We have a window on each side of the fireplace and will be putting 1 curtain on the outside of each. I think a curtain on only one side adds interest.

I like one curtain stacked on the left. More casual looking and very functional. Leaves handles and light switches handy.

As mentioned, we have one at our current house and it is to one side and the BF says likes the convenience of one pull.

MrsPete, I know the hotel setup you speak of but hadnt consider option to pulling both halfs to one side - so if you did that, guessing you'd pull one halway across and then the second panel the rest of the way across?

Karenseb, I was thinking how if split would we get tired of reaching underneath to turn on outside lights, the one side is more practical but reassuring to hear how many actually like the look and dont think it looks unbalanced

I think because you have that wide space of wall between the window and door, the curtain covering that wall when open has a balance that works. Plus all your glass will be open.
