No not really, more like little prickles but I can easily prune her or weave her through the fence without any trouble.

That's crazy! If she blooms anything like she did last year, it will be a show stopper. You don't be chance remember her name, do you? Your pictures are stunning.

I am continuously amazed at how roses can come back from looking like complete goners. I have written off several roses in my garden, only to be surprised to come across a bloom after a healthy rain.

Thank you, her name is Peggy Martin. I bought her from the Antique Rose Emporium online. She has a neat story behind her if you look her up, and I fully believe it after my own experience with this magnificent rose.

This rose is one of the most beautiful roses I have seen in my life.

To answer summersrhythm's question, I have read that she will put on a good show spring and early summer, repeat some during the summer and put on another good show during fall. I just recently bought this rose and since my neck of the woods gets cold winters and a lot of snow, she is waiting for spring in my garage along with some others I ordered late. If she looks anything like the above photos, I will be delighted. I think this rose is worth growing if only for her history.

Fingers crossed, Jamie, that both of ours do well. It's finally time to plant my tiny little Peggy Martin. She's been overwintering in my garage. She's going on the east side of the pen to my chicken coop to keep it shaded. Northland Rosarium's description says she'll get 6'-10'x12'-15' and that she's a continuous bloomer. Even if she only blooms once, she will still provide shade for my chickens. And, even if she only does half as well as Armywife's, I will be happy.

What a wonderful (and timely) post this is! Such inspiring photos and ideas shared above. The Peggy Martin rose is a stunner–and only has prickles during her youngest years, interestingly. I have a young one heading up to a second-floor balcony, and hope that she will mature to the degree of loveliness pictured in this thread.

Having heard that a friend growing a similarly young Peggy Martin in zone 6a discovered brown canes (and no sign of spring growth as of yet), there has been concern about winter frost damage, can anyone kindly advise as to spring behavior for zone 6? I have suggested morning Superthrive–the breakfast of champions!–but I too have become curious and concerned about Peggy's apparent struggle there.

Northland Rosarium in Spokane, WA, only sells roses that will thrive in this zone 5 to 6 climate, and I notice they are already sold out of Peggy for the season - testifying to the fact that she is popular here. I'm in zone 5, a snow belt, north of the Rosarium, and I'm planting Peggy today. She has overwintered beautifully in her 1 gal. nursery pot and putting on new growth before I can even get her in the ground.

Thank you for your responses! I will pass this information along and see if I can get an update after a few warm days. It's possible that this particular Peggy Martin went in-ground a little later than most (August, perhaps?) and failed to set root in time for safe overwintering. It would be wonderful to hear news of basal growth, though (with which my own 10b Peggy surprised me this morning!), given other zone 6 Peggy Martins have fared well.

Can anyone describe how much this rose repeat-blooms in the 3rd or 4th year? Mine in the 2nd year was great in June but since then no blooms. I am hoping that the repeat blooming is really as prolific as others have said.

I don’t see any repeat on mine yet, I think mine is 4 yrs old.

No problem. Some roses repeat in warmer zones........I have a Blushing Lucy (rambler), it repeats in warmer zones, but not here in my Ice hole.

Bought it 5 months back and the first flush of blooms were there and potted it in ground 4 months back, no trace of buds so far
