which mango is this?

I found these mango's today and thought they were mahachanok but they aren't.

I let the vendor tell the name 3 times but still don't know it. It is kaew mango but the rest i couldn't understand. kaew long loom or something like that.

I do have kaew lerm korn but that was a green mango with a different shape.

Does anybody know this one? It is nice, very sweet, has some strange taste which i still can't describe. It makes me think of chocolate or coffee or something brown haha. Has only some fibres on the pit.

It was cheap so must be an old variety i guess. But i have no idea how many kaew mango's exist. Who knows it?

My guess is that it is Mallika Mango? Indu Modali

I have no idea, never seen a mallika mango myself. But here we can see both:

They look like dasheri but that's an indian mango and the ones i had are from thailand.

Mallika looks more round.

That is not a Mallika for sure. But it is definitely an Indochinese mango.

Gosh, sure looks EXACTLY like my ripening Mahachinok mangoes...

Yes they look like mahachanok but don't have that smell.

I bought them from a grandma on a big market, those grandma's sometimes still grow/sell very old variety's from an old huge tree they have in the backyard.

But there are many different Kaew mango's, this is just one of them.

The only name that starts with a K that I can think of is "Keow Savoey" but the picture doesn't look like yours...

Kaew (or gaew) is a very common Thai mango, you'll find it on every market all year. Mostly it is eaten green but also yellow it ain't bad. It's in the class of chokanan.

Kaew means glass, i guess it got that name from it's crispyness while eaten green.

But the Kaew on the pic is totally different, i wonder why it was still called Kaew. It seems that in Thailand it was a trend to name mango's after Kaew, just like they did with Namdocmai.

Sorry to hear Gary!!! I feel your pain...I had a super fast and short live storm come through here a couple of days ago and the winds were blowing about 35+ miles an hour and it dropped about 15 tiny Mahas...I'm sick to my stomach after seeing all those drop on the ground...I'll be lucky if I have a few to pick this summer UGH!!!!
