Bad experience with my Singer Confidence

I encountered a big problem with my Singer and had to have it repaired. For some reason, the needle bar ended up dropping about an inch and ended up costing me quite a bit of money. He complained to me that it was very poorly made and was practically held together with screws. Also said to me it was made in Viet Nam. I'm scared to use the thing now. I don't do much sewing any more. Before that I had a Kenmore embroidery but the computer went bad in that . We don't even have a local dealer anymore. They have all moved out of town but Walmart.. Any others experienced things like this?
