Living Area - Round Two

Is that art too large for me to use in this room? How about the color? I'm fairly contemporary but wanted something neutral in the space. To see more pics of the room, you can see my previous dilemma:

I took a break from decorating and am now revisiting this room. Taste is fairly monochromatic (I prefer neutrals). The couch is 130 X 90. The back wall is 13'10. There is a 3 foot walk way behind the sectional.

What you could do is lift the artwork a bit higher than the couch and add some recessed lighting to shine the artwork? Then the sectional maybe change the neutral tones to warm Greys, Greys and whites

Love the large picture! Looks great in your space. How about adding a neutral shaggy rug? Maybe some of the soft green/blue pillows to the sofa.

I agree with Betty. Art needs to be higher.

I love the painting. You could add a few throw pillows to help tie in the painting but it really is quite lovely.

Thanks ladies. It will be raised (using existing nails while I decide whether to keep). Since you mentioned rugs....I used this existing rug just for sizing (it will be changed). This room is a long room (bowling alley shaped). The rug below is an 8 X 10 (with the 10 being the length of the couch). What are my options for sizing? I would go bigger, but a 10 x 12 would end up in my walkway? Couch color is actually gray.

And does the bottom of picture have to go above the couch height? The ceiling height is 10ft and the picture is almost 6 feet tall (70 inches). I know it can go up quite a bit more, but probably not as high as the couch?

Thank you, Mark. I'm very visual, so I appreciate your pillows. It really helps me.

I'm also looking for rug and additional pillow help. I'm thinking the picture will need to be higher and the opposite wall will need extra tall lamps to balance out the height in the room with the curtains being hung high. Is this correct? Would love to hear more suggestions.

I found this rug. Ditched the picture for something a little less demure. Felt I need more punch. With the tight area between the couch and fireplace, I am seeking suggestions on a coffee table that does visually clutter the space.

You could look at acrylic, lucite or glass coffee tables.

I think I prefer the glass look opposed to acrylic. Any shape in particular?

    Hang the piece higher.

I think the glass waterfall table was a great choice for her. I think it would work for your space as well.

This picture was from this thread.

IMO a Noguchi table would look fabulous in your space! :-)

If you prefer to look around for other types/styles, here are a couple from Mitchell Gold that I think would look great in your space....I think something with a curved or round shape....

A few more suggestions for a glass top table....

I like the art and like the pillows Mark paired with it. I just ordered and received a pillow from Etsy's popocolor shop and am very pleased with it. It was my first time ordering from them and they had a nice variety of fabrics. Interestingly, the same fabric I chose might work very well on your sofa. If you get a pillow from them, be sure to buy a feather insert one size bigger than the pillow size so it will be nice and full (I get my inserts from Crate and Barrel).

I nixed the art last week as it needed to be moved higher (see above) as it seemed to be too tall for my ceiling height. Another reason is also that I believe it made the room a little too demure. Mark, that Lucite table is growing on me. I always thought they were weird looking tables, but it definitely works in her space. So I am actually searching for a coffee table AND art! :-) I have 60 inches of space between the couch and the fireplace (pretty tight), so I am looking for a table between 22W x 36L or 22W x 40L range.

This one is 58x26 so maybe too large? But this table is beautiful in person....it's made of clear glass, stainless steel and acrylic.

A couple options from High Fashion Home

Yes, that first one is too big. :-(
I saw a clear one at CB2 but everyone complained of scratching. Maybe I need a tempered glass table...

Some other options and styles from zincdoor.com

    Some more from zincdoor....

Btw, what budget do you have in mind for your table and art?

Here are some more that are approx. within your size requirements (+ or -).....

Btw, the first zincdoor table I posted above that looks like an acrylic table is actually tempered glass per the description.

Hi, yes really like the one Mark posted too....I can see your vision for the table, especially with your new rug. :-)

As for the artwork, hmmm.....I'll take a look over your photos and give you a better opinion....I think I'm leaning toward 1 or 2 larger in scale piece(s) of art....

What is the "feel" you're trying to bring into this room? Can you expand as to what you mean about the previous art being "a little too demure"? Reason I ask is because that isn't how I would have described the previous piece... :-)

PS....I'm confused, initially I thought the original poster was "Kellis", but now it says you're "rcarterworld"? Sorry for my confusion in advance...

Ha! Had some computer glitches and created a new login in one day. Phone is one log in and apparently the desktop is the other. I lean more towards an urban neutral type of palette. Clean sophisticated lines with a slight modern touch. I believe the rug is "me", but the picture was not. While I'm not an excessively bold person, the picture came across is too tranquil and boring for me. :-)
This might help with scale. Outdoor patio table in this space (for example) is 22 x 36.

    Lighter pic (ignore artwork please)
