Vertical or horizontal flooring

We are installing 6 inch planks in our entire house. WE cannot decide which direction to install - vertically or horizontally. I am attaching photos of freont hallway looking from front door and the hallway leading in to the family room. Please advise......I was told if we installed vertically it would make the area look bigger.

You can run your planks lengthwise down the entry hall then when you get to the main room you can change direction and run parallel to the fireplace. This is done all the time. You can use a divider plank that's slightly wider than the others if you wish.
