Replace Pool Heater

Almost hate to stir this pot... but I'm looking to replace a 15 year old Laars Lite (millivolt) 325,000 NatGas Heater.
Thought my choices (live in South Jersey, near Philly) were Pentair
MasterTemp or RayPak. Now I'm thinking that it's Pentair MT or Hayward
Universal-H. One local dealer who carried RayPak has switched to
Pentair so the big two in this area both install Pentair, two others
have Hayward.

So I'm looking for some genuine advice, guidance, etc. One company has
offered to check out my old Laars first and apply the service cost if it
can't be reasonable repaired to the new heater.

And yes I'd love to buy a heater for several hundred $$$'s less online,
but I'm wary of being able to find someone to install and warranty
issues if it's not purchased and installed by a "approved" dealer.

18x40x3-8 IG, 28000 gal, Lazy-L, Liner, (New 27Mil Liner 2013), Sand
Filter, 1.5HP Pump, Auto-Chlorinator, Laars-Lite 325N Heater, Aquabot
Turbo Industrial. The 51st State - South Jersey.

The warranty can not be denied just because you had it installed by someone they don't approve of. I'd certainly look into the company that offers to give an estimate (free or inexpensively) on the existing unit.

Given we're talking about a gas unit, you want someone who knows what they are doing to install it and you're likely to require a permit in many jurisdictions.

Hi Scot,

I'm in the same boat with almost identical issues. (We bought a new Dolphin M5 this year to replace our Aquabot and LOVE it!) We have been nursing our Laars Lite heater along for several years now, cannot get it to stay lit, it keeps turning off. We have replaced so many parts already. This year we added it to our PSEG Worryfree contract so that at least we are not spending a fortune on service calls. I looked into replacing it last year, but still haven't taken the plunge for a new heater. I'm interesting in seeing the responses that you receive to your question.
