All Navy room too much?

I am trying to decide whether or not to paint our entire master navy or just an accent wall. In the picture attached, the wall with the windows is where our king bed would go and that would be the accent wall. However, we are not sure if our furniture will all fit with this layout. Is painting the entire room too much? This room gets the least amount of nature sunlight, however I do love this color, just don't want it to feel boxed in or too dark. Thoughts? Sorry only picture of the room I have. But the wall left of the blank wall has a long closet with folding white doors. To the right of the windows is the door to the master bath.

the most successful dark-painted rooms are those with a lot of white-painted woodwork. are you willing to beef up your baseboard and window molding? do you have white furniture that you can put white bedding on? planning to add crown molding? all of these things reduce the amount of walls that are painted, so that even tho the walls are all navy there is less square footage of the dark paint.

how about adding a chair rail at 1/3 height and having white below, navy above?

What furniture do you plan on putting in the room? Window treatments?

You may want to check out photos of navy blue bedrooms.

do a houzz photo search of "navy bedroom" there are scads of ideas, some more successful than others at "keeping it bright".

I have a smaller size room I painted a really dark color. I used white bedding and furniture and it works well. The color you posted is not super dark. This may help.

Hi everyone. Our furniture is white, and planning on doing white linens and white curtains. Right now, we can't afford to do the extra trim or crown molding, though these are additions that I would love! The current base boards and window trim is bright white, though they come off a bit off-white in this picture. My design inspiration is this picture. Obviously this room has huge window with lots of natural light, but planning on the same type of bedding, and adding a white fabric tuffed headboard. I feel that we should just dive in and see what we think. Good thing with paint is its not permanant lol

Would you paint the two walls you can see in this picture, then keep the other walls Revere Pewter, thats the other color I was planning on painting? linlac I like how both of those look. I think I am just going to go for it!

Sounds good to me. And like I said, if it doesn't work out, you repaint. I had to repaint my bedroom 3 times to get it right due to my husband not liking one color, and the other color not working with the wood trim. It was worth it though as I'm very happy with the colors.

I will make sure to post pictures when it is all said and done. I will need to paint our dresser white, which needs a good paint job. Doing chalk paint because I am lazy and dont want to prep, lol. Thanks for all the feedback!

I think it would be too much personally.

We moved into a house when I was a teen where my room was all navy (with a yellow sun painted freehand and orange trim,!) and that room actually had no windows. When it was night time it was DARK. It was too dark. Even in daytime with the lights on it was dismal.

I say stick to an accent wall to start and see if it's enough:)

Wow that seems like an interesting room. I do believe with two windows, 2 white doors and 2 white folding doors to the closet, along with white bedding and furniture, and baseboards and trim, that there will be enough white. Thanks for your input, I might regret it, but think I'm going for it.

If you're going to put a king bed and nightstands on that wall with 2 windows, there's not going to be enough paint left showing to make it an accent wall. You'll be covering up most of that color. Choose another wall.

I have SW Indigo Batik on all four walls in our master and LOVE IT! The white furniture and the tan headboard POP. If you have windows you will be fine.

I painted a bedroom in navy blue and painted the trim and crown moulding navy as well. I left the window frame white because I have white California shutters in the window. There's a large wool zebra stripe area rug on top of white carpeting and the ceiling is a medium grey-blue which appears white because it's so much lighter than the walls. A white ceiling would have been too severe. It's a small room and I went with black furnishings, which sounds wrong, but looks amazing since there's very little contrast between the furniture and the walls and the furniture pieces don't look nearly as bulky as they would if they were white. The closet doors are painted out in navy. I added four tall strips of mirroring from Ikea on the wall opposite the window to reflect more light into the space. I also added lots of direct and indirect lighting and emphasized the bed with a white upholstered headboard and indigo and white bedding with grass green accent pillows. There are bookshelves along one wall with lighting so there's lots of colour with the spines of the books and decorative objects. Navy blue makes a statement! It's a very sophisticated relaxing room which my 24 year old daughter is thrilled with... Only trouble is, it's practically impossible to photograph it properly or I'd show you.

I love dark blue, so i have been thrilled with the comments and the pics, shopping my little heart out! One thing i will say, is i assume that like me you are nuts about dark blue, so I would want to wake up to see it, you won't do that if it is behind your head. I instantly felt this as soon as you discussed accent wall. So if you do that, put it somewhere, where you can appreciate it. thanks for making my day.

I wish we could see Cynthia's room. Some people are simply bright room people. But it actually makes a lot of sense for bedrooms to be darker. I love the idea of painting all four walls navy (personally without a lot of white).

I actually have a LR that is pretty much all dark, red brick fire place, dark smoky taupe walls, furnishings dark, very little white, just baseboards. Now all the art work is black and white, but much white with age, kinda yellows, hence the reason i did not go white. But i have lots of shiny metals, and most of the pillows are lighter and brighter, oranges goldens, teals, blues. that and the metals brighten it up.

Behr Gray Owl, I tried to get a picture, but for some reason I can not capture it. I actually have paint chip samples of the colors that go in a plastic in my purse, so i never buy pillows etc. that won't go. You know like all those skirts you buy that are so colorful and cute and you can never find that exact green, red, blue, etc.?

Tried to find something really navy blue with a lot of white like was suggested in a post above. What do you think?
