Is it in a container still? I would get it hardened off and planted in the garden asap. Much easier than trying to grow it inside in a pot.

Yes, still in pot. I will have to think of a place to locate it in the yard...thanks. (Strangest thing...I also wintered a Sensation French Lilac in the same area also in a pot and it's leaves are opening green)

Yes, could be normal winter coloration. Many species do that. Chlorophyll-the green pigment-takes a while to ramp up. While waiting, other pigments show through. Or, another route to same: Plants growing in soil with plenty of phosphate-a needed nutrient-but during cold weather, when this nutrient is often unavailable to the plant-will exhibit reddish and purplish coloration. Just the mere fact of the soil warming up can alleviate that.
