where are you located Jim?

I'm on an island north of Seattle. How about you? Since I wrote the initial post, I realized I ought to expand my trade possibilities, because I also have 20 or more iris cultivars including bearded, minis, dutch, Siberian, and Japanese. Especially, various blue bearded irises. Fall is the time for splitting the tubers.

Do you have rooted OGRs available right now? Here in southern Minnesota, I'll start propagating in mid-June and have rooted plants available in late July. You have a few roses that I'm interested in. Let me know if a trade between us would work out.

What I have right now is two things. First, several roses already in the ground for a year. And second, many many rooted volunteers springing up close to the main plant. I am guessing that it's probably wisest to wait until Fall for the first group. As for the second group, we can do a trade as early as late July. I can dig them up right now, and get them going in smallish pots.

Tony, tell me some of what you have. Also tell me how I safely give you my email address, in case you have a big list? And which of my roses strike your fancy?

I may have two more roses for trade by the Fall. First is truly extraordinary, a very floriferous Bourbon climber called Blairii #2. One big show in June. The second is a classic perpetual, (but looks like a gallica) called Reine de Violette. I hear it is usually a large bush, but in my garden it is a small climber growing through a Viburnum. It is often the first rose to bloom, and usually blooms again in the fall. Both have great fragrance.

Ms Seeingreen, I had never heard of The Canadia Rose group. They look to be a little more focused on roses than i can manage. My garden on San Juan Island is very large and, though I like roses and wish to trade them — and also feel like I am in heaven when they bloom — I'm not so interested in simply talking about them in any great depth. I have way more irises, fruit trees, and berries, than i have roses.

I prefer to remain a generalist. Actually, right now, I seem to be most focused on growing compost from a local, bottomless supply of manure, kelp, and azomite, than in anything else. By using it liberally, I get to watch the garden growing itself.

By the way, Tony, Alana, Phylis and others, I like to think I am internet savvy, but I seem to have failed miserably at finding the "privacy setting". So, as Phyllis suggests, I have made a rose list using an "idea book". Check it out.

To answer Alana's question about volunteers. Right now i have extra plants of two rooted gallicas: Belle de Crecy and Charles deMilles. I could easily find a small rooted plant and put it in the mail. I may also have a rooting of Blairii #2. It is an amazing rose but it needs lots of room. If i look, i probably have a few rootings of the alba Felicite Parmentier and the moss Charles Lobb. One caveat about the last one. I can't be absolutely certain of the name of that moss rose. In trying to ID it, it seems to look more like Charles Lobb than anything else.

I am impressed by your list Alana. Among the ones i see, I would gladly trade for your own choice of a few from this list::: Belle Sultan, Queen of Denmark, Ebb Tide, Yolanda, Serratipetala, Christopher Marlowe.
